evo
hey all,,took my dog to my perm tonight to have a run around whilst I was having a look at a new perm and whilst watching him I grabbed hold of what I thought was a barbed wire fence, then felt an electric shock run through my hand, not a big shock mind, so thinking it was a nerve I touched it again(with the back of my hand by the way) and got another shock what sort of voltage/amps are running through these things my own fault for walking the perm in the dark and not having a reckie during daylight hours but I was out taking a buddy to shoot some rabbits and he forgot his battery so I let him use my rifle whilst I walked the perm, I must say the shock I received was not like a socket at home but just goes to show you its better to check a perm during daylight ,mind you I would of probably still of touched the wire, atb Evo

Elby
I got a lovely shock once. The live wire was broke so I disconnected the fencer from the battery and put the wire between my teeth to strip it back. Next thing I'm on my back, being a doughnut I had forgot my solar panel was still connected and putting power through the fencer. Won't be doing that again

delburt0
We put one up around some rape last yr and thought it was earthing after feeling it, In the end I knelt down whilst holding the fence to clear grass and dirt from under the fence, next thing and after getting thrown backwards 8' i felt not quite fly self for a hr even my nuts where throbbing :( people don't realize touching them with your boots on isn't half as good as touching the floor whilst holding the fence with your other hand, please try u will be shocked with the difference (pardon the pun).... scotslad
The first thing i always do when coming to a fence is with plain top wire is to check for insulators. Never trust a farmer to turn a fence off and always treat them as live. I have ben shocked on 1 small estate where i do the fencing, disconnected the only feed in, or wot i thought was only feed in only to find the farner had bodged some temperory fencing in elsewhere creating another feed in Mind out lamping rabbits 1 nite had my chainsaw boots on which have a steel/metal liner in the sole for about 2/4 ft round the only hole in hedge i was getting slight shocks throu my feet, so much so i had to walk to other side off the field and walk all the way back. Didn't think that was even possible must have been a severe earthing problem
Greenhunter
Went to open a metal gate which, it turned out, had an unintentional connection to the mains powered fencing.....wet boots and both hands on the gate!!! Thought I'd been shot in the chest!! The farmer was just across the yard and saw what happened. Nearly had to pick him off the floor he was laughing so much!!
