Fisherman Mike
I thought I would post this here rather than under the wanted banner as it might be easier seen and also on the off chance some of you might know someone also.. I'm in a position to re-home a dog in the new year and if anyone finds themselves in the unfortunate position of having to do similar perhaps we can do each other a favour. We lost our Springer around this time last year and the wife has been hankering for a replacement as we have always had dogs in the house. Breed of dog is generally not important but not too big or too old and no staffs types would be considered..it would be a family dog but not worked and it must be happy being left for 2 or 3 hours a couple of times a week. I am prepared to reimburse a sensible fee but I am not looking to buy a puppy. You might say try the rehoming centres, but the process is too long winded and laborious and is generally full of unwanted types or dogs with behavioural issues. We are experienced dog handlers and have three "mature" children still living at home so the dog would get plenty of love and attention, it must also like lying in front of the fire on a big soft bed, being totally spoilt or sharing the couch with my wife ! I live in a particularly beautiful part of the country and have access to rolling fields, and woodland a few paces from my back door so it would get plenty of exercise and have a pretty good life in general. So on the off chance any of you need to re home a dog in the future or know someone who does please be good enough to PM me in confidence with the details and I will consider it and get back to you. Cheers Edited December 14, 2013 by Fisherman Mike

Blunderbuss
Good luck Mike, a big hearted gesture and I know the lucky pooch who ends up with you will have landed on its feet and be spoiled rotten. Just a thought in the mean time, my wife Sue does dog walking for the Cinnamon trust - they place her with people who are housebound through age or illness and can no longer walk their dogs. She finds it very rewarding especially as our lifestyles at the moment mean we can't have our own dog. Minch and Rodborough commons are her stomping grounds. If you're interested I can get you the details, there's plenty of call for their services in our neck of the woods. Hope you find a dog soon. And we should get out on the pigeons in the new year! chady
No problem have a chat with her she works with the 4 days a week. There great dogs and not what you expect. By thinking they need lots of walk ect. There fast but got no bloody stamina so they like short and sweet walks. And 90% are not aggressive if tested right there the softest dogs out there. The only problem is if your a drawf and got big ears and a lot of body hair!!!! bruno22rf
We have 2 Springers-both from rescue and I would not be without them-they steal food, sleep on our two grand sofa when we are out, urinate on our path to avoid getting their feet wet on the grass and constantly pass the most noxious gas I have ever experienced. If I take them shooting one of them chases anything with feathers no matter how far away it is while the other one eats anything it can find on the floor. You gotta love them BTW best dog I ever had was a Staff-don't believe what most people have read and think is true.

reggiegun
I have a 6 year old cocker that is good at dogging in the pheasants, before shooting starts, but is gun shy, to the point he will run back to the car if he sees you with a gun. PM if interested, free to good home. Reggiegun

Hector Vector
Ex-racing/coursing Greyhounds make wonderful pets. Once they get out of kennels and used to the comforts of home they develop into lovely, undemanding animals. I've currently got three along with four rescue Bassets, two rescue labs and non-rescue Clumber.

njc110381
A good friend of mine works for a rehoming centre in Cheltenham. If you don't stumble across anything here I'm sure he would be happy to keep an eye out for something special that comes in. Now and again they have a really nice dog appear from a really decent previous home. Owners die etc... Not all rescue dogs are problematic. It's the process that's the pain in the backside as you say, but with some inside help perhaps it needn't be?
bicykillgaz
Well done for looking at rescues, but don't let media hype put you off staffy's. I've got two rescue staffy's and feel blessed every day that we found them. They've got more character than any breed I've ever come across and are very intelligent dogs both intellectually and emotionally on an almost human level. They really are a joy to own. Good luck in your search.
Fisherman Mike
Thanks... Nothing against them or their character and disposition....I just don't find them a very attractive breed.

You may recall from our previous meets, that I can smell, sleep and snore like a dog, and when I have too much exercise food or drink I normally end up on all fours . My current owner (the wife) will deliver by return .
