krugerandsmith
Folk forget that we had a sabre rattling USSR that could have come rolling across Europe at any time not to mention the nuclear weapons threat. I hate to think what would have happened if we'd had a pathetic socialist windbag like Kinnoch in power instead of the Iron Lady as the Russians respectfully called her. We might have been invaded and as a result the country full of people from the Soviet Block living here...... Hang on a minute What total and utter rubbish..... Except about Kinnoch..... Mind you in all fairness she did keep her son out of an African jail while taking part in an attempted Coup. Cost her a lot of money though. Fisherman Mike
The greatest PM since Churchill. He took on the Fascists and won She took on the Unions and won I cant even begin to imagine the kack this country would be in now if she had lost that battle. She showed the Yanks, the Russians and the Argies that Britain is Great and had more balls than Major, Blair, Cameron, and Clegg put together. keg
aka samsung at Wynyard given millions in grants on the premise of thousands of jobs which never materialised and then they shut up shop totally and cleared off. KW Indeed they did, but at the time, the Korean eceonomy was in meltdown, oversupply in the semi conductor market. Would have been crazy to open another factory. Assume they only got grants for the factories actually built. Most local authorities do this.

KW Huge proportion?- i think not. Fcat is we cannot make goods as cheaply as other countries- especially if we followed yoiur theory of £10 an hour as a minimum wage. krugerandsmith
Correct - another Labour folly. Left bankrupt after 15 years of boom. Fact ..... We are more in Dept now than when Labour left office...... Regarding Margaret Thatcher being called ..... The iron Lady .... This was a Russian tongue in cheek joke I was working there at the time.....keg... Russia had submarines with multi headed missiles ( eleven per missile ) off the North of Scotland which could have taken out most of our major cities... They would not have to march across Europe

They would not have to march across Europe Ha, the Labour party are in serious debt now, have you seen their figures? Labour have got something like 12x the amount of debt the Tories have. And thats despite the unions propping them up well over a million pound a quarter. Sound familiar? Thats what they did to the UK while they were in power, dug a massive hole of debt that will take years and years to climb out of. I'm no Tory but Labour are a bunch of clowns who can't manage a pound note.
