pesky pigeon
Portleven, Portreath,Padstow, Bude, Mousehole, Perranporth, Looe, Polperro, Fowey and Mevagissey some of the best places to visit.

paul2012
avoid south Devon. Go for south coast of cornwall
figgy
I prefer Devon for better landscape and scenery. Cornwall to me is a bit harsh and craggy. Figgy
colin lad
We visit St Ives in Cornwall almost every single year. Love the place and rarely have anything but sunshine. Saundersfoot and Tenby, South Wales - similar but not quite in the same league - in my book. Very few other nearby places to visit, whereas Cornwall has Portleven, Portreath, St Mawes, Marazion, Padstow, Bude, Mousehole, Perranporth, Looe, Polperro, Fowey and Mevagissey to name but a few. North Devon - Woolacoombe. ll very nice but to add 2 of our favorite places Taland bay and Holywell beach colin

Alfred
Well, perhaps I should give it another try. Up until that disappointment in 2010 it was one of my favourite places in the world. Although we might have been spoilt I suppose, in 2010 when we had that holiday in St Ives we'd been living in the Bahamas for 3yrs and were only in the UK for a couple of weeks. After a couple of years back in the North West UK I reckon Cornwall will feel like Hawaii
figgy
Harsh and craggy is fine by me - I'm used to the west of Ireland! That's ok then. Said to wife when I was there in bad weather you wouldn't know if you were at the tip of Scotland if you had been dropped there. Scrub grass and rock. I like countryside and nice beaches. Cornwall does have some lovely coves and harbours. Driving in summer is a nightmare with the little roads and high hedges. Figgy

Figgy I have to drive around those lanes in Cornwall in a 7.5 tonner everyday, having to deal with Emmett's that can't reverse 20yds in a straight line....Devon and Cornwall are beautiful..you just have to know where the quiet places are...and avoid the tourist bottle necks... woodcock11
I'm thinking of taking the family (1 wife, 2 teenagers and an 8 year old) on holiday to Devon or Cornwall this July. I have never been and was wondering if any PW members can give me advice on where to stay. Information on the location and individual property would be appreciated - I'm really looking for a mid price self catering option. Thanks in advance. Alan We used to Cornwall - Praa Sands on the south coast between Helston & Penzance - very nice. If you want to go closer to home and save on ferry costs, Ardmore in County Waterford is very hard to beat. There is a lovely if expensive hotel there called the Cliff House and if you are up for a special treat, anniversary, give it a go - but you will need to book! Good luck with the holiday plans! ps The only place in Wales I have been for holidays in on Anglesey which is very nice - and handy for the ferry to Holyhead. Thanks for the tip although that could be a short break for me and the wife sometime. The ferry isn't an issue as Mr Tesco is paying (via clubcard points) We like the wilder type of scenery - hence our numerous trips to the west of Ireland and Scotland. I live in the green and rolling country, so Cornwall, Devon and Pembrokeshire are all looking good.
Richard.Hosgood
Myself and the family love our getaways to Cornwall. As anywhere really, stay away from the beaten tracks and enjoy it!
TaxiDriver
We stayed at Tollgate Farm Caravan Park in Perranporth last summer and on the whole had a great time, Sure some of the attractions are a tad pricey but if its beaches you want then so long as the weathers good and you have the dna of a Polar Bear you wont find better

GOLDCREST
Love Cornwall, But its a long haul South when you live in the North...We go outside of the school holidays, its a lot quieter and car parking is cheaper as well. The car park prices double overnight at the start of the school hols.. The coast around Mevagissy, polperro, is probably our favourite, along with St Ives of course...Good boat fishing out of Meva, caught some very fine fish from there. As someone said its not as nice as it was thirty years ago, I agree.....Memories when the kids were small and the old folk long gone now....They do colour things don't they...If my Grandparents had gone with us in the 1970's, they'd have said exactly the same thing..." Not as nice as it was in 1920 / 30 something"...But give it a try...If you get good weather and the companies good you'll enjoy the trip... brett1985
Cornwall is a lovely place, and I feel privileged to live here. I do however avoid newquay like the plague throughout tourist season. The biggest thing I have realised over the last 12 months is that living and working here you tend to neglect it... I think I managed to go to the beach about 3 times this year. Shameful really....
Big Al
I just want to thank everyone who suggested Pembrokeshire. I have just returned from a lovely week there. Plenty for all ages to do (from Theme Park and Zoo to fishing and body boarding) and absolutely stunning coastal scenery. That little corner of Wales is a well kept secret. I will visit Devon and Cornwall someday but I will also be back to Pembrokeshire. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
