mickyh
I tried some new Ear Defenders on Sunday but my gun touched them on every mount. Has anyone else had this problem ? How did you solve it ? I cant change my mount obvously. Are there better Ear Defenders out there ? Thanks.
steve_b_wales
What make have you got? The Howard Leight Sportac one are very thin. Another option would be 'in ear' ones.
sportsbob
Same problem here, every set have contacted the stock so i switched to ear plugs instead.
Peskyfoxs
I bought some of the mold your own plugs off the bay, about £7-£10 and I find they fit much better than foam and washable too
mickyh
Thanks Gents,it seems I'm not going to be able to use External Ear Muffs then. I'll look at better 'in-ear' protection. Mick
Glenshooter
Same problem here, every set have contacted the stock so i switched to ear plugs instead. Yep, I can't wear them (to shoot with). Peltors, Sordins, all the same. Must have low ears! OK not shooting but can't wear them when I am shooting. Mick ? ? ? Ah, CENS Ear Protection. I'll look into those. Thanks. Dunno what your budget is, the CENS are good, but eye wateringly expensive! If you wanted a cheapish option of just ear muff style, what about the Napier Pro 9? Very compact and apparently all day comfy. I personally use moulded ear plugs with a passive filter, it allows you to hear speech and birds etc but filters the bangs. Many of my fellow shooting chums use them and are very happy, and at £80 including taking the mould, they aren't bank breakers. http://www.customearprotection.co.uk/applications/shooting/

-Mongrel-
How long do they take to make and where are they based i might have a pair and save me a few hundred £££ I recently lost one on the marsh, my fault completely! Anyway, I had new moulds taken at a shoot about two weeks ago, and had a call today to say they're ready and about to be posted. Their site says...we are available throughout the country to consult directly with you. All our associates are qualified to British Society of Audiology Standards and carry appropriate certification. As I say though they had visited a ground which was convenient, give them a bell.

He's based in Dorset but apparently has countrywide agreements with audioligists to take the moulds. Let me know how you get on.

mick miller
Emtec are very good too, in had a set of passives made before and they were not a patch on the emtecs. Really very good.

JohnfromUK
I have this problem. When I mount the gun (no ear protection), the stock just touches my ear, so no 'over ear' solution will work. I have both Napier Pro 10s (good, but not so good with a hat) and Emtecs (passive but excellent). I do fancy CENS, but they are so expensive ..... I wear Sordins when not actually using the gun myself (i.e. when standing with others etc)
sportsbob
I noticed last weekend some strange looking things being used as ear defenders and have done some research, Napier Pro 9 Hearing Protection was what they were using, great for the Dr Who Cyberman look

Decibel wise are they up to the job ? They sound just the job. Well I've just ordered some for the sake of £7.00. We'll see if I can still hear after 50 Sporting !
