How long should RFD gun order take

I ordered a new gun from my local RFD on Monday with the agreement that it should be here by the end of the week. I checked with the wholesalers who say the gun is in stock but having phoned the RFD today I have no gun and a bumbled explanation that they can't check how long it'll be.

How long have PW new gun orders taken?

I hope not, I've loaded some rounds ready to go!

If I'd have ordered a £400+ in stock washing machine it would have been here the next day but not a gun from the apathetic gun trade.

Not just in the UK either. I've been waiting over a week for the reply to a simple question from Anschutz - unless, of course, they've passed it on to the UK distributor for action - RUAG - so that might explain it.

I know it rubbish especially when customers order something not in stock in has to be imported for them then go off to a proof house get tested then shipped to the RFD, none of it takes time.

But it's only the gun trade isn't I ordered an oak bed last week there a 14 week wait on this model could have had a bed I didn't really want the next day though!

Been waiting a week for a new ATEC moderator was told it would be with my RFD Friday, then Saturday, if it's not there on Monday I will cancel the order...only have a short amount of spare time at the moment so not waiting around..I've phoned around and found another so will buy that if my rfd lets me down on Monday..

I wouldn't have a issue if it was out of stock but both ends confirmed stock when I ordered it, all they have to do is process and put it in with the courier.

Not difficult is it?

When you've finally got it - don't want to upset them beforehand - what you could do Owen, is to suggest that they pop over to Veals in Bristol and get them to show them (RFD) how to do it. Hope it turns up soon!

I was in the motorbike trade for 10 years and nearly everything we purchased was next day, maybe 2 if courier messed up or order was placed late in the day. Now helpin a little at local rfd and surprised how slow the whole gun trade is! Suppliers really slow at processing and sending orders, suppliers contacting the customer direct etc. I always thought your either a retailer OR a wholesaler! Anyone think that maybe the publics dealing direct with wholesalers could be affecting the rfd middle mans shop?

My impression after many years of involvement is the whole gun trade lives in a time warp of apathy and treats the customer as a nuisance.

I'm sure the first line of the GMK customer service manual reads, promise delivery tomorrow even if you know we will not have it until next year!

I couldn't agree more, when I started working in retail many moons ago my then manager told me something that has travelled with me across careers. He said the most important thing you could do was to manage customer expectations and never promise something you couldn't deliver.

I really hope it's a little mess up and it's waiting for me next week as I have a LBP and 2000 .22LR rounds to buy......

  • 2 weeks later...

I would not hold your breath, I finished working for Highland Outdoors a couple of weeks ago, there was massive problems with Rossi and they were cutting back on models, apparently, I have just been reading on there Facebook page that they have over 300 rifle's at proof! If yours is there, I hope it is near the top of the heap, Highland Outdoors are very good at lying though!
