LondonLuke
Or perhaps that should be, will the RSPCA deem it so? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2546867/Shocking-photos-moment-fox-dragged-hole-hunters-shot-children-young-FIVE.html

LondonLuke
I should apologise - it's been passed to RSPCA as poss violation of hunting laws rather than out and out cruelty.
digger
Crass reporting . Clearly states the huntsmen came across a second badger which they also shot. If the witness was a farmer hes clearly a hobby farmer with not one iota of how the countryside works
Nikk
How so? they used terriers to flush foxes to the gun?
ROY
To my mind not the best way of sorting out a Fox but quiet efficient none the less, sure the lentilists will hate it but then they always do. Is it cruel not sure meself but nature can be a lot crueler.
welsh1
Not something i like to do or see,but it is legal. Paper trying to make something out of nothing, and no doubt the rspca will try to get their 2p of publicity out of it. Non story.
bigadam
They had to mention badger set
pycoed
Nothing wrong (or illegal) there. farmer wanted foxes killed, located by terriers, dug to & shot underground. Job done everyone happy except nosey neighbour - I bet he's an incomer too!
ordnance
It depends on what people see as cruel, Is dragging a terrified animal out of a hole and shooting it cruel , I think yes so its up to the individual what level of cruelty they except as part of controlling foxes. Fisherman Mike
Storm in a tea cup... Not what I like to see either as it was this sort of thing observed and publicised by ARA which went a significant way to getting Hunting banned in the first place. Perhaps if they had left the Kids at home which seems to be a large part of the criticism by a very biased reporter.
washerboy
Idiots.. It's easy to pull out a fox alive, but only done it to let a vixen go. I shoot the fox in the hole, it's cleaner, safer and above everything else legal. Why do folk like that let themselves be filmed or even carry on like that. Gives real law abiding terriermen a bad name
Fisherman Mike
On that test all ferreting is cruel. Not when I do it its not...I don't use nets or a terrier just a gun....have you seen me shoot...
Alfred
Legal but personally I wouldn't do it. I'd wait until it was out and about later and then shoot it. No trauma for the fox that way. Digging something out that way doesn't seem very sporting at all.
zx10mike
**** way of doing it in my opinion why not a rifle sat out waiting? but to each there own and no offence meant.
overandunder2012
i wouldnt want to be seen doing such a thing, hardly sporting as alfred said
sitsinhedges
It's not supposed to be sporting it's pest control.
team tractor
I read it at the weekend and thought why is this published. Nothing illegal and why did they print the guys picture ?? If I was those men I'd be livid. I know of a few people using this method around here
digger
Sitsinhedges, bang on the money. Its not all about us having sport. Also, at what age is it acceptable to introduce youngsters? Nowt wrong in what happened. As for the allowing themselves to be filmed comment, really ? What makes you think they were aware
TaxiDriver
Seems some confusion/dispute as to wether they were on the land with the owners permission or without ? I would see that as the biggest issue surely ??

I agree its cruel I have no objection to people shooting foxes or come to that hunting but to dig the pore thing out of its den and drag it off and then shoot it is barbaric to me

apache
IF the fox is down a badger set it is a criminal offence to interfere with such a set. IF they don't have permission it's armed trespass. It's not nice for kids to see something shot in such a way - restrained and so close up. That's not a nice introduction to country sports, or something to show a child. I'm sure there are better ways of dealing with the problem. This sort of thing tarnishes us all (although it is in no way 'sport'). The act is legal but borderline cruel, IMO. It is a criminal offence to cause unnecessary suffering to ANY animal. Does a fox being dug out of a hold suffer unnecessarily? It doesn't when my 22-250 goes 'bang'............
