caeser
I have just been out to my Discovery 3 to find that some person has ripped my rear wiper off. I found the bits in the road, arm ,spring, blade. The arm is so badly bent , it's scrap, and it's a substantial thing, not a flimsy tin arm. The motor shaft sticking out of the glass is also bent, so it's a new motor also. Not to mention the labour involved in stripping down the rear door etc. It's gonna cost me this is. To say I'm angry is such an understatement. I was parked in my drive with the rear facing the pavement. I normally have it further down the drive, but my daughter is visiting so her car is also in the drive ,and my wifes car. Mine was unfortunately the one at the end. AARRRGGHH. stubby
this is one reason why we bought a home cctv system from maplins, 4 cameras hooked up and never have any trouble anymore
FatherandSon
Have they done it because the back end was hanging over onto the footpath or have you had past problems?

caeser
Have they done it because the back end was hanging over onto the footpath or have you had past problems? My wife asked the same question, but the whole of the car was in my drive. Never really had a problem before. I suspect washerboy has hit the nail on the head. caeser
Steve, are there any stickers in your vehicle giving away your hobby? No there aren't, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people from around near me know that I have guns and go shooting. So you never know, you could have a point. Glenshooter
Horrible thing to have happen and I'd be mad as well. Mind you, if they had wanted to really be evil, there's a lot more that they could have done so I'd go also with WasherBoy and kids on the way home being little tw*ts. Hope nothing more happens. caeser
Just an update. I found out today, that 2 other cars down the road from me were also done. One of them owned by an off duty policeman, who heard the noise and saw the culprit ripping off someone elses rear wiper. He ran after him, caught him, and held him down until the on duty police arrived. So after talking to the police I now have a crime number, and even the name of the lad that did it. He is 20 years old and was very drunk apparently. He also spent the next 24 hours in a cell. They only have proof of the one car damaged by him, as it was witnessed by the off duty policeman. Although it's obvious that he did mine and the other one, unles he admits it, he won't be charged with damaging them. Speaking to the officer dealing with the case today, he says that he's going to grill him again today. So I won't hold my breath. (But I do know his name.) four-wheel-drive
was he wearing gloves then as I would have thought that his finger prints would be all over the remains of the wipers having said that what is the point in spending the money looking for prints as he will only get a slap on the wrist I'm afraid its something that we just have to live with until we start punishing people for doing this stuff but that aint going to happen. shaun4860
This happened to me and my neighbour recently, Smashed his rear quarter window and tried to prise the rubber of mine, Left blood on neighbours car, Police came, took samples, matched it, arrested the guy. Before they arrested him I gave a statement, got a crime number, police asked if I had a rough guess of cost of my repair (light damage to rubber), I said to put it into a dealer and get it fixed would be around £100, told him I wouldn't be bothering as its not really that bad. Anyway, it went to court, he admitted damaging both cars, 12 month be a good boy sentence, fined £100 and ordered to pay compensation to both of us. We both had to give bank details and were told we would be given priority over the fine, As yet nothing has been paid and to be honest we don't expect it to be (apparently he can't afford it) We were given his name though
chipper
Caeser, its a pain in the neck, i've given up on reporting to the old plod on how many times my vehicles get vandalised. And the scary reality is i live in a friendly neighbourhood too. If it were my only car/van then its fair to say i might have upset someone, but sometimes the whole street (and the next street) gets the same treatment. Door mirrors kicked off, panels keyed. wipers bent over.............. thb, dont think there's anything that can be done.
Catweazle
I just don't understand vandalism. People do lots of strange things for kicks, and I don't want to do them myself but can see why someone else might enjoy it, but vandalism just doesn't make any sense at all. What is going through someones head as they vandalise something ? Is it a jealousy thing ?

caeser
I am now looking at CCTV systems too. A bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted but, it will be peace of mind for me.
Mentalmac
Sounds stupid, but say you hear car's being vandalised and yours is on your property (such as Caesars on his drive) and they enter your land to do it - have you the right to use appropriate force to protect your property even a car? I haven't a drive so am a bit stuffed and have often found that a lamping torch in the eyeballs with a pretty loud shouting out of the window worked when our street had a spate of attacks. Always keep lamp by window now. If i didn't have kids who would meddle with stuff, I would put a full super soaker there too as a bit of fun. (When it snowed, the local louts were throwing snowballs at cars, so I went and got supersoaker and a friend and as I drove by he unloaded a good old dash of the cold stuff on them... was a sight to behold them all legging it freezing cold home). You may use reasonable force. Be warned though this is very subjective. and if you are deemed to use to much force you will be charged.
