Will Poon
Don't know if this has been covered already, but a simple question. If I were to take my shotgun abroad can I also take cartridges with me as well ?
webber
Check with the airline; but generally no. Its usually best to buy ammunition where you are shooting. webber
Will Poon
I'm glad you answered john, let's say a competitor swears by your Fiocchi cartridges and will only use them, but the destination there going to don't supply that brand! What then ?

everycal
From my experience most airlines that let you fly with a firearm/shotgun allow in a separate lockable container for a certain amount of ammunition for the same price. Normally only 5 kgs or so, fine if you are with rifle, verging on pointless for a shotgun. I know as I normally shoot a 16 bore so therefore have to take cartridges with me. I personally have never found it more hassle than travelling with just a gun.
Jaymo
As Luke states...... Comes under the IATA Carriage of Dangerous goods. Over that amount then it has to be treated as a Dangerous Goods Consignment and it's subsequent costs. Actually for the Airline involved, aslong as they're DGR certified then it's mainly paperwork for working out segregation and packaging- but they will charge a premium to do so. PhilR
The max allowance is 5kg or roughly 125 shells. Aiirlines do accept them, but are antsy about it, they usually accept them packed in your hold luggage but it eats into your overall allowance. Guns aren't generally a problem check the small print of the airline. I've flown with BA, Easyjet, Monarch, Alitalia they all have their own way of doing things and charge per gun on each leg of the trip. Personally if I'm flying to a competition, I'll buy locally as it saves the hassle. I allow 7 euros per box when I'm totting up how much wonga to take. webber
I can check tomorrow, but I'm reasonably sure that TNT won't do cartridges international. Will, I know what cartridges you shoot, and won't comment any further on your choice, but maybe Fiocchi would be a better one if you intend globe trotting with gun in hand. webber
oscarsdad
I flew to cork with a pocket full of cartridges in my Barbour without realising! My fault I know but amusing that security took my toothpaste off me when I went through but somehow didnt notice the 9 cartridges in my pocket! Luckily I went clay shooting over there anyway so used them up and didn't try to fly home with them!

Will Poon
The reason that I asked the question was, as I like visiting various clubs in this country it would be nice to shoot abroad and I saw an article about a shooting competition in Dubai https://nadalshebawsc.ae/ , not that I would win It would be good to have sunshine and heat whilst shooting, plus my first time with a FITASC type shooting as well I would probably buy the cartridges over in the visiting country if i ever went abroad to shoot. I'm not going to Dubai anyway as the wife heard wind of this and she wasn't impressed at all to say the least

The good news is that I an certain that the organisers supply your cartridges free of charge. For other countries, just take PhilR's advise, check that your airline will carry guns and buy your carts when you get there. Doesn't matter if they don't stock your brand it wont affect your score one way or another unless you let it play on your mind. Good Luck Mr Potter
