decent roost session

It has been a terrible week for me this week, not only has work been pretty stressfull and the whole family having coughs and colds but i was also given the tragic news that a good friend had taken his own life last week  .

Anyway after possibly the worst week i can remember i was looking forward to the start of the february roost shoots which take place on friday evenings on our patch and i always enjoy the sport of roost shooting.

as me and my regular shooting buddy Tan arrived at our woods there was a half decent wind blowing and a few woodies milling about.

we arrived quite early 3pm and i settled in my favourite 30ft wide plantation strip and Tan got settled in the wood next door.

sport was slow to start but i can't tell you it was nice and peacefull in the woods away from people and traffic.

by 3.45 it was clear from the sound of shots coming from other woods that the birds were coming to roost.

for the next two hours the woodies provided terrific sport and reminded me why we all harp on about the humble woodie, such a sporting bird to shoot.

we packed up just after 5pm i had 20 picked and 4 or 5 not picked and Tan had a dozen or so.

two squirrels and a carrion crow also joined the bag but didn't make the photo.

despite the bag [which is good for these woods], it was good to get out and clear my mind, after such a bad week i thoroughly enjoyed it.

all of the shot birds were stuffed full of rape.

Love the picture of you being stood in the wood ,in anticipation. :good:

(I take it, it is you?)

I find that a day out shooting, can relieve the mental stress that can build up in bad times. I lost my best mate and shooting partner in October, very suddenly.

Nice bag. I'm out this afternoon and would be happy with half that amount.

hope you have a good do mate, certainly a good wind blowing out there :good:
