Vauxhall Zafira

Drove a Zafira for a while and it didn't inspire me at all. The main problem was the engine. At 15,000 miles it felt like it was on its way out. Wouldn't pull you out of bed. The steering was also quite poor. For space it was very good, but I wouldn't touch one again if I'm honest.

I think they are underrated, solid and a nice drive, some very good specifications for people carriers.

They are a lot of car for the money.

What engine one are you looking at?

They are solid and a nice drive. If you want fast, don't buy one. They are meant to chug lots of people about.

7 seats in use means little luggage space unless you use a roof box. The seats are good but you need to slide the middle row forward to put them up, annoying if you have a load of large child seats strapped in the middle row.

I am now about to sell a Zafira simply because it has a manual gearbox and we want an auto. It will not fetch much as it has now done 115K almost faultless miles. Other than servicing and tyres etc, the only thing that want wrong in all this time was a £25 crankcase sensor.

Tyres are very very cheap also.

My head is spinning lol. We are looking at the 1.8 petrol (120) as I don't do to many miles these days around 14,000 a year. I get to drive high performance cars in work so I drive like Miss Daisy on my own.

For the price it's hell of a lot of new car even with fairly high tax and fuel consumption.

One of my daughters in law owns a couple of children's nurseries and they have a few Zafiras to ferry kids about. I owned a 2.2SRi some years ago, my other daughter in law has one, also a couple of relatives. If you can live with the fuel consumption - not bad, but not brilliant - they are a lot of car for the money. Reliable, cheapish to run / maintain.

It seems to have become fashionable to slag off Vauxhalls, whilst praising Volkswagen and the like. I don't know why, but I have driven many of both brands and I don't see Volkswagen as any better - in some respects - worse.

I'd take a look at the smaller diesel zafiras....

We need more space now so a Galaxy will replace ours.

Can only reiterate what Gordon has said. We have one: reliable, ok (but not brilliant) fuel economy, and plenty of room (7 seats). We looked at other makes of car - Ford, VW etc - but you definitely seem to get more for your money with Vauxhall

Good luck

I don't know if I do enough mileage for a modern diesel with all this DPF nonsense and can't really afford for the car to be off the road. My commute consists of a 1 mile trip to the motorway, 15 miles on the M5 then around another 2 on a dual carriageway to work.

I'm currently getting an average of 31mpg from the Golf so it can't be any worse....

MPG specs for 1.8 Zafira (petrol)...

  • Urban Fuel - 29.4 mpg
  • Extra Urban - 49.6 mpg
  • Combined - 39.2 mpg

Manufacturer's statistics always tend to be over-positive, but I still think you'd get reasonable MPG since most of your driving (83% by my reckoning) is on the motorway.

I'm looking at replacing my ageing Golf Gti with a people carrier type vehicle. I have been offered a brand new Zafira 1.8 petrol for 9545. Does anyone have a Zafira and what are they like.

Cheap at that money, very good people carriers, few toys compared to many of the others but has the important things like AC, only older cars can get a little problematic, even diesels believe it or not. I personally don't like the driving position but unlikely to be a fault of the car design !

I have the automatic version of the 1.8 fuel consumption is more like

Urban 23

Combined 28

Extra urban 34

This is the best I have ever had in 4 years and I don't drive like a F1 driver

We've had a 1.8 petrol for 12 years now and it's been pretty trouble free. Only big bill was due to a water leak through the bulkhead, which required the dash and most of the interior to be removed for the sake of a couple of quid's worth of sealant

I hate the ride quality though, without any weight in it it bounces around like an unloaded van.

If you buy a diesel spray clean the MAF sensor with the right stuff. Another thing is clean out the EGR valve system properly. Not a very nice job but

then again well worth it if the EGR valve is taken off the engine and cleaned .While doing so scrape clean the exhaust muck out of the system you can see using vac at the same time.

Our Zafira was an old boot but now its superb. Its all on the net just try it.

Hi Livefast123

Thats a great price for a new car to be honest.

Is it for the latest shape/ model. Or for the last of the older shape ?

Weigh up VM's 100k lifetime warranty if its serviced correctly, it seems a good deal if you offset against diesel models purchase price to cost per ltre at the pumps to actual useage mpg.

Please PM me the info of the Vauxhall Dealer selling as id like to enquire as very keen my self ?
