Clegg challenged Farage to a live hour long debate on EU membership and the challenge was accepted.

The pair step into the ring at 7pm tonight on LBC radio. This is the first of two debates between the two, the next is on April 2nd on BBC2.

If you want to listen you can do so via the LBC website or Sky Digital channel 0112, Virgin Media channel 973 or Freesat channel 734.

Should be fun!

The thing is, do I miss the M*A*S*H re-runs tonight and listen to this or wait to see the blood bath in full technicolour on April 2nd??

I reckon its a no brainer, Farage will tie him in knots, poor old Cleggy ain't the brightest tool in the box.

I love LBC.

Apparently it's a sign of old age.

Nick Ferrari is intelligent but harangues everyone.

James O'Brien is a wet left winger but thought provoking (the left wing balance to Nick Ferrari's right wing bias)

But the best by far is Steve Allen - the problem is he is on mega early and I only ever catch the tale end of the show. He is an acidic bitch and enormously funny.

You said "Clegg comes across as" suggesting that he gives you the impression that he is thoughtful.

Had you said he comes across as according to a third party that would have been a different matter.

The context of adding "a bit lost and wet" clearly adds that I am not a fan or otherwise taken in by him.

Thank you for your pointless critique however

My original comment on your post had two smileys, which I thought you would have taken as intended.

If you've misread any of my comments as alluding to you being taken in by him then I can only apologise, you are clearly far more astute than that.

This is Farage's specialist subject, on paper Clegg doesn't stand much chance.

I hope that Clegg is clever/well-briefed enough to lure Farage off-topic. I would be genuinely interested to hear Farage defend UKIP policies on the EU and immigration in the context of wider governmental considerations.

Can't help thinking it would have been a better tussle with Vincent Cable up there.

I'll tune in after the Archers if the iPhone will let me.

Clegg's not stupid, he knows Farage is well clued up on everything EU so he'll have done his homework.

Clegg's problem is, like Cameron and Millipede, he's totally out of touch with the electorate.

Farage and UKIP have risen to where they are by actually listening to what people are saying and setting their policy around those people's fears and aspirations. It's simple, popular politics. The politics of listening, rather than telling. Farage is very, very good at getting his point across, and is happy to answer questions without the usual politician's evasiveness. He will give a yes or no answer, without all the political waffle associated with all the others.

I think it will be an interesting debate. Clegg and his party are in the last chance saloon, with a real possibility of the Lib Dems losing all their seats in the EU 'parliament' in the May elections. This is the last throw of the dice for him, and I expect him to come out all guns blazing.

I think however, he's bitten off more than he can chew this time and expect Farage to shoot him down in flames. :good:
