I had a pair of magpies hanging around in the garden a few weeks ago. I managed to take them both out with the HW100 :good:

A week or so later, another pair appeared and were flying back and forth with nest building material. These two were much smarter and as soon as my thoughts turned to the rifle, the looked up and were off! How do they know? They have a spooky sixth sense :hmm:

Anyway, all this time the Larsen I made last year was out, with various baits......nothing would entice them in :/ Saturday morning came and for the first time in my garden, I saw a pair of goldfinches. Shortly followed by seeing the magpies flying over, so that was it, war on  As chance would have it, an aunt phoned and said did I wan a call bird, as theirs had done its job :good:

So call bird in. I watched the two resident ones pacing up and down, baiting the call bird, but they wouldn't enter the trap, despite a rather juicy, opened up pigeon in there. :hmm: So I snapped a few bits of hedging off and placed it so that the residents couldn't quite get to the call bird. This worked and they then went on to the top of the trap. By nightfall, I had the first :good: Its mate has hung around since then but not gone anywhere near the trap. Obviously early this morning, its curiosity, or lack of humping( ) got the better of it :good:

You should have saved one to keep in the trap. The pair you caught will not be the only ones about.

Did you not keep one as a call bird mate ?

Murdering whatsits they maybe, but it seems a little unfair to keep one confined indefinitely. I'll deal with the next visitors when and if they show up
