ack-ack
My Sunbeam at the spray shop. Its being resprayed its original colour white. Hopefully how it will end up looking. (not my car or picture) Its great feeling getting your ride in primer, you just have to have the cane ready for when folk inexplicably feel the urge to run their greasy hands over the paint. islandgun
Iv'e had two classics in my life a 64 mk II Jag 3.4 and a 54 austin a30 The austin was much easier to keep on the road and often made the journey from exmoor to essex, it had an 803cc engine and i was once overtaken by a bike

Some years ago I had a Mk 1 capri 2ltr it was rust free but for some reason had lots of stone chips on it so I decided instead of putting little blobs of paint all over it I would splash out and have it resprayed well I got it back and it looked like new for a few weeks untill one day I noted that there was scratches down the side it was not like it was done deliberutly I put it down to a bag with buckles rubbing against it add to that people in car parks just flinging oppen there doors and hiting chips off my car I gave up bothering at that point and I just care about the machanics in good order it may not look nice but it goes like +++. Nial
For those hankering after an old car don't forget the reason newer cars are different is because they are a _lot_ more reliable/quiteter/more compfortable/ more fuel efficient. My mini broke down yesterday, luckily only a mile away from the house. I got the carb off and cleaned the float vale and jet out, it tried to start but then chocked again. I ended up having to get one of the neighbours to tow me home. I think it's probably dirt in the fuel as I was horsing it about earlier in the day. I am joining a breakdown service of some sort today. Nial. Edited April 20, 2014 by Nial
krugerandsmith
Judson!!!!! If anyone has one, or knows of someone who has one, please please please drop me a message! Sorry, carry on. Judson?... Do you mean .... Jenson?
ack-ack
Judson?... Do you mean .... Jenson? Nope, they were an aftermarket bolt on supercharger for flat fours when the scene took off in the ststes in the 60s. Managed to add about 15bhp (from memory) which was a significant boost when you were only putting out out 37! As said previously, Any budding engineers that fancy a project could make a killing on these. The last second hand unit i saw was at van fest in 2004 and it went for nigh on two grand! Not forgeting newer cars are a whole lot safer airbags etc much as I would love to have an old car they do not crash well having said that i managed to crash my 1960 Vauxhall Cresta twice so badly that it needed a compleat new front vertually from the windscreen forward mind you they was made of paper thin steel having said that I still love my old 1965 cresta with the three speed colum change and the 3.3ltr engine. PhilR
They did up one of those the other day on that car resteration program on TV chan 4/5 I forget I did not get it they said that it had been left in a yard for several years and the inside was a bit taty but it was for the most part rust free and the engine and gearbox was good they paid 5k for it and in the end they recond that it was worth 13K. Just checked the C5 website. It was actually a 928 they did up, they had a 4.5 up to 5.0 litre V8 engine. The 944 engine was virtually one bank of the V8 engine from the 928, clever these Germans. Stratts
PW Dubbers association, bugs and busses welcome, type 3 owners have to look shifty in the corner. Ha ha, i have no issue with any classic vw.It used to wind me right up when the show and shine would get won by a three year old T4 with loads of bolt on carp from halfords though. This is my classic combo but the old bus is soon gonna need some work!! The caravan is decked out inside to match the bus. Downside to lugging the old sprite with a 1600 aircooled engine is about 15mpg if I'm lucky!! Whatever classic you go for they all take time and money to some degree

Chris Bb
until it breaks down again They may break down more but at least you generally know why and can have a pretty good go at fixing it yourself. Unlike modern cars with a great sheet of plastic covering everything under the bonnet & a computer buried somewhere with a mind of it own. figgy
A teacher at school in the eighties had a lovely brown and yellow Panther Kalliststa. Looked a bit like a banana toffee sweet colour wise. Very Morgan like to look at. Figgy

Dunkield
There must have been a Classic Car meet somewhere round your way yesterday, I was on the M25 and saw at least a dozen Triumph TR's going the other way

Beardo
I'm gutted Goodwood Festival of Speed is this week - two weeks earlier than last year, it clashes with the event i'm on else i'd be working on it again.
Dunkield
I think I am about for the Harpenden Meet, I am fairly sure Twicthy gets along to that - I might come up for the evening If you like old(er) stuff try and get to the Goodwood Revival, madly busy and very expensive, but it is the best meet of it's kind in the world. could have been this... http://www.classiccar-retroshow.co.uk/ That's next Sunday

twitchynik
Yup. I'll be there. Usually stand outside the Silver Cup with a pint and watch things come in and the local loons burning rubber. Not as entertaining as it used to be due to a more prominent police presence but still a good place to hold up before wandering around the cars and bikes. Also worth hanging around for when they leave as you get to hear the engines and light up every now again... Parking is a complete nightmare and gets worse as they day draws on. Worse for me now that I've moved and it's no longer a short stroll from my house. I plan on being there as early as I can (prob 4ish) and parking on a side street. There is normally parking on the common further up the road. Details on the website. Drop me a text/call if you do go.
