marsh man
Looking through some of my diaries, apart from the odd year I have nearly always found May to be one of the quietest months of the year , from late Oct. to the end of Jan. most of my upland shooting is out of bounds due to game shooting, apart from peas there is very little else to go on till towards the end of June when the first signs of laid barley or peas in pod are starting to attract a few pigeons, so with members on hear from other parts of the country what is your quietest month ? birdsallpl
May & June are usually very quite, but this year even April has been very quite for us. The birds just aren't here. We would usually expect to see some on sprouting beans but nothing this year. Will be getting the rods out this weekend instead.
kent
There isn't a quiet month always something to do if you do more than one thing, the quiet times are just due to weather
Cosd
There's usually a lull after the spring drill has grown and before the laid cereals. Doesn't stop us getting out though, showing our faces and the farmer knows we are not just fair weather shooters.
Actionpigeons
There's usually a lull after the spring drilling up to finding pigeons on laid crops, as Cosd has said. I generally just put the guns away until the end of June and just go fishing or dog training. Edited May 2, 2014 by Actionpigeons

JDog
january thro to december......apart from that its really busy Be very careful with that humour ditchman or you will be thrown out on your ear. As for quiet months, May has normally been the quietest for me but not last May when i was shooting very good numbers on spring rape. aga man
Usually May is the quiet month round here too, although april has also been poor this year. We drove over 100 miles yesterday afternoon looking at permissions of peas, beans slow growing patches of rape etc and saw no numbers of woodies eventually found 100 or so birds in the beech trees still on flowering buds, so no pigeon shooting this weekend. Thankfully our dairy farms cut silage in may so we do get some corvid shooting and get on top of vermin in general. Bring back Swisstony I say. Talking like that you will get banned although i do miss his humour too!

Never been on spring rape JDog , we used to get several on Lucerne and Linseed but haven't seen it round here for a while , also Broccoli used to give us a bit of shooting while it was a few inches high in May. Maddaftspaniel
May and June up here but that is good because it coincides with the rearing season and my neglected garden gets some attention!
motty
I've just flicked through my diaries for the last few years and found that I've had some good shooting in April, May and June. I've certainly had good bags in all these months, mostly on rape, peas and drillings. I don't have many peas to shoot anymore, which will have an impact on my numbers in years to come (especially in June, which I think is THE month for shooting over peas). My least productive month is January, on average, and is the only month where I haven't managed to get a ton+.
