Rabbits galore

Third visit to my local warren produced this little bag, 14 in total but one nice buck managed to scramble under a huge bramble bush before pegging out, so I decided it wasn't worth getting cut up trying to recover it, so left it for the local fox and was happy with the 13 collected.

This warren stretches out along the side of a barley field and the bunnies have mown about 3 acres of it, farmers well fed up so asked if I could help, first visit with my Air Arms S400 .177 was about ten days ago, when I took 16, before running out of air, after a recharge I went back and took another 16 last Tuesday.

Today I moved up the field to a small copse where they like to pop out onto the barley with cover close by, I set up my hide about 20 yards down wind and waited, first to come out was a big doe ,very close at about 10 yards, down in one, then the rest followed at regular intervals , started about 2.30 and packed up at 5.30. getting low on air again so off to the shop tomorrow for another recharge, best £1 spent, much cheaper than 12 bore shells and quieter as well.

I always used to hunt rabbit by stalking them but rarely got more than half a dozen in a session, after sitting in my hide a few times shooting pigeons I noticed the rabbits were quite happy to pop out to grab a quick feed right next to the hide, that gave me the idea that whilst the rabbits are so concentrated on these well chewed areas of barley they would make great areas to set the hide up , its worked well so far, farmers chuffed at the results and just says "keep it up lad", which of course I intend to. plenty more to go at, at least until the mixy catches up with them again.

All now prepared and in the freezer. :yahoo::yahoo:

Looks like a great spot, I miss my AA s410f .177 and Daystate HC .22. I will purchase another air rifle at some point but will go back to spring power I think to minimise cost.

I've started shooting from a vehicle, might be worth a go as well?
