Sprackles
I have a Rangemaster 90 which I have had for 2 years on 20th May. Today without any signs of a problem my RCD cut my Electric. No individual breakers had tripped so I started the process of elimination by turning off plugs and trying to reset. The mains switch for the cooker was turned off and the electric came back on......turned on the cooker supply again and off the electric goes again. Left it an hour and tried the same again and got the same result. Cooker was not in use at the time.....(its a dual fuel...leccy ovens and grill)... so I have no idea of what type of problem I may have...cooker or circuit. It seems strange that the individual breaker did not trip but the whole supply did. Any ideas please so I know who to start calling... Munzy
Could you remove the cooker from the circuit after the switch, turn the switch on and then fire it up. If it trips again you know the issue is in the ring wiring or more likely the switch itself. If it stays up you know it's the cooker. bullet1747
you need to disconnect the appliance from the circuit not just switch off ,could be numerous things common one is faulty rcd just cause they say 30 ma doesn't mean it will be 30 ma ,I had to change some last week they were ramp tested and tripped at 13 ma
Sprackles
Will try to disconnect from circuit. The whole circuit and RCD device were put in new when my kitchen was done 2 years ago. Just seems strange how it tripped without warning when not in use. Thanks for advice so far. My 2 year warranty runs out in 2 days so thats why I am anxious to get to the fault quickly. bullet1747
report the fault as the cooker just in case, but it could be a build up of ma from various things plugged in ,hence the need to disconnect items
Alex C
I would ring the warranty number first thing and get it logged as an issue, dont wait to find out if its the circuit. They will probably send someone out who will be able to tell you if its the appliance or the circuit. If you wait for a sparky to come out you may find its out of warranty by the time you find out the cooker is knackered. Hope you get it sorted
proud dad
Munzys advice is the way to go, but I would just unscrew the cooker switch first, and check that the cables on the load side of the switch are not touching the metal back box. The insulation doesn't have to be damaged sometimes you can get what is called a pressure fault which will be enough to trip an RCD.
bruno22rf
Contact the retailer-its their problem as the contract was between themselves and you. Don't accept any rubbish about warranty claims as the sale of goods act has much bigger teeth than any retailers legal department. The 2 year warranty is simply an add on to your statutory rights-NEVER waste your money on extended warranties-read the sale of goods act. Do not attempt to repair it yourself or let anyone else near it-your rights will be out of the window. proud dad
Did you get this sorted? I'm curious as to what the problem was.
Sprackles
No idea what happened but next day when showing a friend the problem, it worked perfectly, I couldn't get it to trip even with both ovens and grill on. I'm baffled.

Doc Holliday
Curious. I was going to suggest one of the elements had gone AWOL but as said previously, it could be the RCD but as with all these things, you need to prove where the fault is. Guess work soon becomes expensive. See how it goes.
bullet1747
like I said ramp test the rcd , to be fair if every thing was on when you switched the cooker on it would not be rcd, as the rcd would still have the same problem for tripping , my guess would be a kettle or fridge but process of illumination
Sprackles
It was definitely the cooker Bullet.......I was turning all sorts on and off and it was only when I switched off the cooker supply at the wall switch (not consumer unit) the electric went back on. As soon as I turned cooker switch on again it all tripped at the RCD. It wasn't even in use at the time. Have not been able to replicate it since.......
