I have not done a write up with pictures before but after reading and enjoying all the others i decided to have a go.

I was out walking the dog and noticed that a farmer was killing of the grass and turning it and then covered it in manure. I got talking to him and he said he was just going to sew it with more grass seed but wont get around to getting the seed in for a few weeks yet.

So i kept an eye on it over the next week and there were a good few crows and the odd pigeon that were feeding on it. No idea what they were feeding on probably all the flys and bugs on the manure.

I decided to give it a bash on Saturday. I was going on my own so thought i would take my young dog with me to see how he gets on. He has never been shooting before just training up to now.

I got to the field around 8.00am and about 2 dozen crows lifted off it and half a dozen pigeons. I got the hide set up and decoys out, i used 6 flocked crow shell decoys and 6 plastic pigeon shell decoys.

I got myself into the hide and loaded the gun and literally within 20 seconds 3 crows straight in. I was delighted that i dropped 2. checked the dog was ok and he was and walked him out to the dead birds on the lead. I lifted the dead birds and walked him back on the lead.

Another few came in and another 1 down. Took the dog out off the lead this time just walking to heel i tried to get him to pick the bird up but he just hasnt figured out what im asking him to do yet.

I sat on for a few hours and birds decoyed pretty well.

At the end I threw some birds and the dog retrieved them perfectly. So i must get out more often to get him into the way of retrieving shot birds as opposed to just me throwing them for him.
