Out after some woodies the first time for ages tomorrow this is the first half resonable feed I have found for about 8 months. The crop is late sown peas about 3 inches high no flower as yet so they are feeding on leaf. Will get set up for about 2pm and all being well should shoot through till about 8 will start off as usual with 2 dead birds as decoys. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

We have pigeons going mad for new beet plants about 3 inches high, they are shredding the new leaves on acres of the stuff, they were coming well to decoys yesterday but I shot like a t**t , and got 6 but scared the hell out of a lot more,

we also have rooks dropping into holes in the barley, the damage is amazing, all the barley in the area is broken about half way up the stem and all the seed heads have gone, the area is only small, about 20 square metres but every grain of seed has gone in that patch, when I set up on the beet I was in range on the barley but they cleared off as I arrived and I only saw two through the whole 6 hour session, clipped them both but they didnt fall, bah humbug, Im going to get myself an anti aircraft gun, that will give them a fright,

It was a good day finally got set up around 2:30 the weather was kind and had pretty steady shooting all afternoon packed up around 7:30 picked up 174 pigeons so all in all pretty happy with that.

Excellent result.

It's been a year since I had a bag like that.

Some of the reports from today show that there are still plenty of birds to go at.

I am near the sussex border Hawkhurst area and there has always been pigeons here throughout the last 9 months but none really shootable as they have been in the woods until very recently feeding acorns berries etc and recently on the leaf buds and several still are. I really think you will start to see pigeons in numbers soon feeding on laid barley and wheat and of course peas and I also think this harvest will be a memorable one as there have been far fewer birds shot this winter.

I also think this will be the case. I simply can't wait for the rape to start being cut, as i'm expecting some good bags from a few fields this year.

As an aside, i'm starting to shoot young birds every time I go out. At least 3 out of my bag of 37 on peas yesterday were this year's birds.
