Two Hot Days

Recommended Posts

Friday saw us setting out for the rape that I saw on Monday after shooting the crows, and has been cut for seven days now when we arrived on the field we could see a number of feathers aroud,we have subsequently found out that two, two hundred plus bags have been taken off it in the week. We moved on and drove to another Rape field that had been cut for a simular period, this had birds down and we watched it and twenty odd birds joined so we set up , Magnet , two angels and eight stand ups all thawed birds. It took over an hour for the first bird to return and we wondered if we had made a mistake but we think it was a case of them being well fed and did not return until they had digested some of it. during the day we had to move the pattern around as the wind changed three times and after 14.00 we had the sun in our eyes. We packed up at 18.00 and picked up two hundred and ten birds.

Saturday saw us heading for some different Rape only to find a shooter set up, where are these shooters in the winter protecting the Rape in the cold? . We carried on and ended up on the rape on the same farm that we had shot the day before, this field had not been worked and was still standing stubble. We set up at 14.15 with the same set up and as before they took over an hour to return then we had a steady run of birds till we packed up at 18.00 and picked up One Hundred and Thirty one birds and consumed 3litres of coffee and 2 liters of squash . It was two great days but very hot to say the least.

Well done lads, they look well fly free, whats your secret

Two large carp sacks in the shade

Well done PC. I had one of the fair weather stubble shooters come visit me today but he soon got told where to go, one of my pet hates with pigeon shooting. I found it difficult with the heat today but still managed a few. Back out tomorrow

Ben

Well done Ben you found them then, I would like a transcript of the conversation with the fair weather shooter????????????

Haha I don't think it would be suitable for the open forum! Only joking he was moaning that I had set up on the field he wanted to shoot. I told him it was tuff and that I'd never seen him on the rape in the winter. He soon stopped going on and left. Probably wont see him until next summer now

Well done for standing your ground. We would never set up on a field with another shooter unless invited. We would expect the same from other shooters but we have had others try and set up on a field we are shooting. I end up setting DB on them .

May I be a dissenting voice here to say that your standards are slipping.

In the picture of the smaller bag several birds are out of line and in the larger bag there is a pronounced curve in the laid out arrangement.

I do agree that I have let the standards drop but this is to prove to the Massive that we are not machines and robotic. It is probably due to the fact that we we're dehydrated even after the excess of coffee and squash . In the future I will put a laser level in my kit.

Totally agree, the lining up is below standard :big_boss: although i was always told there is nothing wrong with a pronounced curve :D

Seriously though well done on the weekends results PC, very pyshically demanding i would imagine.

When I arrived home my wife was in the driveway and as it fell out of the Disco my comment was " I'm getting too old for this shooting lark" she replied " I'll get you a cider"
