Went out on new permission yesterday where the landowner cultivates Fir Trees and is having major probs with damage from Deer.Arrived around 3.00 pm found a nice spot to lay up and at about 4.30 i heard some noise behind me ,swung round to see a Roe doe looking straight at me,only available shot was a neck shot which as the deer was only 40 yards away i took with no fear of messing it up,she went straight down absolutley perfect kill.I stayed where i was and low and behold another doe appeared about 30 seconds later i had already cycled the rifle and took this one out with a head shot (I have a good picture of this but last time i put something graphic on i ended up with moans and groans from several people)this is the first and probably the last time i will ever get to do this. The landowner was absolutely delighted which made me feel great and that hopefully it is a good start to which i hope is some productive permission.

Good shooting that. :/

Good luck for the future with your new productive permission. :D

Frank.

I trust you dont shoot deer in the head regularly then?

:good: If you read it carefully, he took a neck shot, not a head shot.

As Mark says, please explain yourself?? :/

Just want to say well done fella....i was one of the moaners last time.Nothing wrong with a graphic pic if it displays wot a bullet can do or wot happens when the correct calibre is used.Just didn,t agree with laughing at some animal blown in 2 ..the picture that is... but thats in the past!

As for your head shot you,d already proved ya rifle was cock on and you were shooting true...good call!

Do i really need to state the obvious about why head shots should not be used!!

Shocked is such an understatement

- Slight gust of wind

- Debris in the bore sight invisible to the scope

- Poor breathing practice during shot release

- Beast moving its head during shot release

- Very small room for error for clean kill ( very easy to leave a wounded beast roaming )

........to name a few!!!

Laws of averages gentlemen thats why........its not the done thing!

At the end of the day you will all learn when it does go wrong, and you are all grown ups and people will still do it as you say but it does not make it right though does it.
