fenboy
A member posted several good bags shot on beans last year so anything is possible , though I often think they are feeding on weeds between the rows rather than the bean shoots themselves . As with any field the pigeon will tell you if its worth shooting or not , if they are there in numbers it is, if they are not dont bother ! Longstrider
You've got beans on your permission ? I have nothing but wheat and a bit of rape on 'my'' plot. Next farm over had about 60 acres of beans last year and the field turned blue just before and just after harvest. The pigeon were on that field hard for about 10 weeks in all, and virtually didn't want to know about anything else in the area. You might have a while to wait for it to get good, but it will come good I say again ... You've got beans ? Then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5i1cJIwE7M (in jest, no offence meant). It MAY come good. There are no guarantees in this game. I had hundreds of acres of beans to shoot over this year. I didn't get a good shoot from any of it. squirrelhall
Crows may hit them though they pull the sprouts up to get at the seed
Bobba
Hi all, do pigeons eat the shoots as they are coming through. Tia Mark Last bean sprouting time one of my permissions farms took a hell of a hit with crows. So keep your eye out.

stuy
I shot a 157 bird day ( plus a 70+) on emerging beans this year, which was a first for me, and they were definitely feeding on the shoots not any beans left over from drilling! birdsallpl
I Believe Pigeons do eat young beans but only if not much about. I thought this time of the year the beans growing were mainly from the previous harvest spill. Well, aren't you the lucky one..? They won't touch bean shoots here in Herts, whether they're newly emerging after being drilled or vounteer shoots after drilling, and that's a fact. Cat. It could be that beans are not actually drilled are they. They are broadcast and the bean seed attracts birds even when they have started to germinate and grow. In my area birds are taking bean seeds for ages after they have been broadcast.

Catamong
An unnecessary post. No, I'm telling it like it is. I've been shooting pigeons for well over 40 years now and never, ever, have I seen them eating bean shoots, fact... It may be that some birds will eat the broadcast beans, but that was not what this post is all about, the question was, "Will they eat bean shoots", and I can honestly say," no they won't", at least not around here. They may go mental for them in Wales or Scotland, but, take it from me, not in these parts. Enough said..? Cat.

maxie
I have had a couple of reasonable bags on beans that have just germinated.Usually post harvest when they are scattered on the surface.
stuy
There are rare occasions when emerging beans will shoot ! They did for me this year a first , just because you have not shot over emerging beans in your area does not give you the right to dismiss people who have shot over them! In fact I know of 2 other very experienced pigeon shots , who have also made good bags on RARE occasions.
