sako751sg
Old fella was down for 0900 so all ready and oot the door before 1000 with everything covered in white frost but a fine sunny morning. A wee drive of 15mins took us to the usual spot for a nice walk that covers around 350 acres all in with some pretty hard walking but at least everything was solid and no goor to collect on the boots. Had only walked 20ish yards from the Jeep when the first bird got up and Mac took it very quickly and Jake took it back.Good start and it was pretty much regular shooting from there with both him and the old fella shooting spot on and only one bird was hit that was lost.Wasnt much variety in the bag and usually end up with some redlegs, pigeon and the odd woodcock but was restricted to pheasants and a lone rabbit although we did see plenty of species that didnt give them a shot.Took us around 3 hours and ended up with 13 pheasants and the rabbit. With Rab only oot for the walk now Jake was the only one working and he was shattered by the end. We then went to find any water nay frozen but most had a good inch at least so we picked a small one that was totally frozen over as the teal still seem to use it as it has a fine rashy bit round it.Was a cold wait but around a dozen at different times did make their way to come in and although we hardly got a shot at most we did manage a pair which was a top end to a top day. sako751sg
Cheers all. Top darts gaj you starting to shoot a few hens now. Aye Alan, although we did say cocks only after the 3rd hen.Havent seen so many hens and nailing the foxes on the places where its all wild pheasants is making big differences although the great couple of summers we have had have given them a good boost. Usually see a covey or two of greys but only rose one single yesterday and i think they are pretty much on the edge here. Hows your shoot going this year?
