Paul taylor
Just dawned on me that even though we can and do shoot these two species, I personally have no idea why they are on the GL. Could someone enlighten me pls. Ta very much PT.
TIGHTCHOKE
No Idea, we saw three Snipe and one Woodcock this morning but didn't shoot at them and enjoyed seeing them. Edited December 27, 2014 by TIGHTCHOKE
CharlieT
They aren't on the General License, they're game birds. Edited December 27, 2014 by CharlieT
JDog
I will be shot down in flames I suspect but I believe that neither snipe nor woodcock are classified as game birds. They are wildfowl.
Paul taylor
Did wonder if that was the case. Presume there is a season for them then. I'll google it. Ta.
Paul taylor
Looks like they're in the wildfowl section on BASCs list of game and wildfowl. Just looked.

They are wildfowl. You are of course quite correct, they are classed as waterfowl.
crowdie2013
Personally don't bother shooting them either as I don't eat them. Guys on my shoot aye happy to take them away so we do bag them. Will maybe try eating one in 2015!
Old farrier
Hi So if there waterfowl are they subject to the non toxic rule ? All the best Of Sorry I was just feeling mischievous 😀😃 And I do know what the answer is 😃
albifrons
They are very much a game bird and certainly not wildfowl, but could be argued to be more of a wader. Up until August 1st 2007 a game license was needed to shoot them legally. Edited December 27, 2014 by albifrons
ollie
They are not wildfowl. They are classed as a wader, but you will also find that they are a gamebird. I used to shoot a lot of snipe, but most times now I don't raise my gun to them because I don't see the point. But I do shoot a lot of woodcock, although this year has been my worst year in memory. I think they bypassed the coastal areas this year and went on inland. A lot of fellas seem to be getting birds in the middle of the province, but I don't think I have reached double figures yet and normally I shoot 30ish each season. KFC
We've got loads of Woodcock this year but not so many Snipe. I do eat Woodcock but would not usually bother with Snipe.
