My working goldie is 18 months now and loves his training, but still gets very excited. He's much less OCD than my lab, so is a pleasure to train. I love the lack of pressure, the waving carefree tail, looseness, total lack of tension or misunderstanding and the all consuming enjoyment in what he's doing. Brilliant timing as in you making him wait just long enough to learn to be a bit steady...but never for so long as pup gets frustrated or fed up or God forbid makes a noise. Gentle, quiet cues, superb body language, no grabbing, rushing or insistence upon being anything other than a pup having fun. I guess I train for the behaviour I want and avoid the behaviour I don't. Sorry if thats not helpful at all. I'd love to help but don't know how to type it without writing the generic dog training methods that have already been said in countless books, dvds and forum topics.
