TaxiDriver
Does anyone on the forum do iphone repairs (on the cheap) please ? Have a 4s that needs a replacement screen and outer glass, seems I can get these off well known auction site for £10 - £15 but local shop wants £65 for supply and fit. johnphilip
have a go yourself, there must be something on youtube , showing you how
Munzy
I've done it three times and it's really straightforward. Loads of good videos on YouTube to help. Small Phillips screwdriver is all you need. Give it a go... what's the worst that can happen?!
TaxiDriver
have a go yourself, there must be something on youtube , showing you how Thanks but, A. I can't even see the screws/fixtures B. My idea of fine hand tools only goes as small as 6lb club hammer and 1/2" socket set
Breastman
Here's a video showing it step by step. You'll need to by a special screwdriver for removing the back cover but they're like £1.50 on Ebay/Amazon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6CcxjUKqUY If you're not confident doing it yourself keep an eye on Groupon as they often have iPhone screen repairs on for about £
malkiserow
If AckAck offers to assist, just politely say "no thank you". His idea of a fine specialist tool is a wrecking ball made in Germany

Craigyboy21
I repaired an iphone 4 a while ago & if I can do it I'm sure anyone can! a mistake I made was to buy a cheap replacement screen on Fleabay, make sure the buy the correct one (unlike me) that has the touchscreen surface otherwise you won't be able to operate it. Once I got the correct screen it was easy enough to do, I found instructions on the internet.
Billy.
It's really not that difficult. You'll save yourself a few quid and learn a new skill. YouTube is your friend for this job
daystate 177
Where are you mate on phone so can't see? The 5's are the best to fix I think but a 4 should only take 20mins Max it's easy enough, I changed my pals screen on a few day old 5's didn't even leave my drive before he dropped it again that phone is on its 6th screen now lol
MartynGT4
I used to repair iPhones and IPods, the 4s is pretty fiddly and easy to **** up but as long as you have decent tools, a steady hand and don't rush it's manageable. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+4S+Display+Assembly+Replacement/7277 P.S. An illuminated magnifying glass helps!
39TDS
I had a go and I'm pretty good with such things usually. Made a right balls of it! The screws are about the size of a grain of sand and that's the ones they describe as "large". Mine is now in a box in dozens of pieces. FarmerSim
I just fixed my HP laptop - youtube showed me how to replace the screen cable, and it was an easy, if fiddly, few hours work... bought genuine parts of you know where, and voila! here I am on one fixed laptop!! P.S. An illuminated magnifying glass helps! As Martyn says, this was more or less essential for my old eyes!!
39TDS
My offer is £10 posted for your box-o-bits I made enquiries for a "professional" to reassemble my box of bits and relace the screen I broke while attempting to replace the previous broken screen. I think they wanted £65. Not bad really.
