Which scope for .243

Good quality glass in something like 6 or 8 x 42 fixed power. you get more glass in a fixed power per £ because there are no moving parts and not a lot to go out of alignment on the zoom so that the point of impact changes as you zoom. Most people keep to one mag anyway and if you get a big scope they weigh a ton. Also the object glass is smaller so there is less to reflect / glint back in the sunlight.

I have a swarovski Habicht 4-12x50A on my 243 x bolt. The outfit is llight enough to carry around a hill andthe scope is compact enough for stalking so it doesn't feel obtrusive ,yet bright enough for a bit of foxing either under lamp or moon light. I also have a spare schmidt 8-56 with an a7 reticle. Again extremely bright but a bit chunkier. I had that on a 308 that has since had a makeover and now has a night force Nsx on it. The night force is a great target scope, looks trick and has a good fine target reticle on it but I don't think the optics are as sharp as either the swarovski or schmidt .

For stalking an 8x56 will be fine, if mostly foxes then I'd go for variable. At stalking distances there is no need for dialling in its generally point and shoot as you will be sub 200 yards.

If you want to shoot foxes more or if add on night vision might be added later then you would have better options.

got both of these. can get a 8x56 S&B for £500 off sportsman at the moment.Dont need a variable zoom for foxing

Try Cubs at 200 yards plus and personally that's when I really wind up the magnification. You don't need a variable but it sure makes life easy on the longer shots

:good:

Usually keep my scope set at 8 but it is nice to have that little bit extra when required.

100% agree, I had a s&b 8x56 but over 150 yards at foxes sat in wheat stubble it was starting to test my ability so opted for a meopta 3-9x50.. Never looked back, great for stalking and lamping..
