billytheghillie
My 4 year old cocker spaniel was in kennels in January for 12 days. When I got him back I noticed one of his eyes was a bit runny. Recently it has turned into a small yellow blob particulary in the morning. I have tried cold tea on it but doesn't seem to be working. Is there anything I can buy over the counter without going to the vet who will rob me blind. Cheers.
loriusgarrulus
I find if the cold tea bag doesn't work after a couple of days your best at the vets. The yellow sounds like an infection and probably needs antibiotics to clear.
gazbev
You can buy antibiotic eye drops from the chemist
fruity
Be going on a fair few weeks now by your description, so could probably do with a vet taking a look and giving a professional diagnosis and treatment
Mochastorm
You can't buy the antibiotic eye drops at the pharmacy, unless you present yourself with a snotty eye. I was in a similar position and was first refused at one chemist when I said it was for a dog. Then presented myself at another chemist stating that it was for me, but she checked me and said I didn't need any eye drops. Third chemist, said it was for my poor daughter who refused to leave the house, but was again told unless the pharmacist could see her they would only sell a non antibiotic eye wash. If the problem has persisted for so long I believe that veterinary examination would be the best course of action.

I did eventually go to the vet and get some cream but a couple of months later it came back (also after a stint in the kennels). This time I just monitored it and let it run it course. It eventually cleared itself. If you want it cleared up straight away or it gets real bad get to a vet. I notice the condition of my dogs when I get them out of kennels (even for a couple of nights) the stress and separation anxiety can bring on all sorts. Once home and back to their routine they seem to get better.

Mochastorm
Next time any member of my family has conjunctivitis, they are under strict instructions to visit every pharmacy within 5 miles so I can stockpile the eye drops. Still much cheaper than a visit to the vets.
Saltings
I have used meds that I would use on myself just cut the dosage down after all they are tested on animals first before fit for human consumption (just very cautious with Paracetamol )
mickanles
Had a terrier in vets last week for a snotty eye, Checked this and that like they do and prescribed some cream and antibiotics , 32 quid bill, Wanted to see him again today, eye no better, Wife took him and text me at work to say different eye drops, different cream and poss blocked tear duct, 104 pound this time. Gulp She asked for a breakdown off the bill and questioned why the charge for a follow up visit, They just said well that's what we do now, Once home she checked on line and one cream was 24.00 and they had charged over double. Fuming or what, I am all for seeing my dogs are well and healthy, but the only healthy outcome here is the vets wallet . Rant over
