air rifle or hushpower?

Recommended Posts

Hi gents, I have a really nasty piece of paddock that's riddled with bunnies, it slopes down to a road, there's a house behind just off to the side, there's another house adjacent on the left, and the field is occupied by a couple of nags. bar ferrets, what would the learned recommend? it is possible to creep down the side and sit up on the bank and wait for them to come out, i'd like to use the lr as it's quiet but the ground is so damn hard I don't think I can get enough elevation, the hmr is too noisy, spooks the horses and upsets the neighbours.

cheers,

Paddy

Ferrets and nets are my choice,

they're mine too, if I could devote enough time to the care of them i'd have some. my uncle keeps offering me everytime he breeds a batch.

I did manage to do a deal Friday with Chris tanner at Norfolk sporting guns so I now have an air rifle that's capable, and he has a benelli semi auto going cheap if anyone wants one. I had a wander round between the showers Friday eve and had a respectable bag of ten for about half an hour of shooting, the HMR took the most, then one with the shotgun, and three with the new air rifle. all in all i'm happy with it as it fills a slot in the tool box that nothing else quite manages to do, I've used cb longs for stuff like this in the past, but they still bounce and have a very loopy trajectory. I didn't want to go with an fac rated gun as they can be difficult to pass on if and when I decide to pack all this shooting malarkey in. thanks again everyone for the advice though.

atb,

Paddy

As PC has already said.......a long net (set up as a drop net) may be the most effective. It'll get the pulse racing too. Watching the rabbits go out to feed, then when you think there aren't anymore coming out......you pull the cord and down drops the net blocking the bunnies escape. A clap of your hands soon has them bolting to the man made web. You tube rabbit drop net if you've not seen one before.
