Well done for following it up and getting a good result . The officer sounds like a jobs worth. I had a run in with a constable a while back and I got onto BASC and was given some good advice. BASC even followed it up on my behalf and my understanding was that he will be remaining a constable for a while and his card is marked.

Just leave a bag of doughnuts in the boot for next time!

Funny you should say that. Many years ago I was on my bike and got blocked in by 2 cid cars and they all jump out like something from the sweeney. They started saying that a man of my description and my bikes was seen steeling car radios and asking where I was coming from .I replied college and on my way home.

Now I must of had about 20 ice ring doughnuts on me at the time along with some other cakes and some drinks for a party that I purchased from greggs.

So one officer goes to me hmm what's in that rucksack that looks dodgy I said to him doughnuts sir then he goes to to me don't be cocky if I find a car radio in here I'm nicking u for theft.

So then then he says he needs to search me and dips he's hand into my rucksack and opens up a bag of doughnuts god the looks on there faces was priceless haha.

I was given a stop seach piece of paper and he warned me that he would be running checks on me to which I Replied thats fine u won't find nothing.

My old feo found it quite funny come renewal.

From what I understand if you are unable to produce your original certificates a police officer is entitled to remove your guns immediately?

Whether this would/could happen is a matter of debate and could depend on many circumstances i don't wish to test out?

I always carry mine.

Interestingly, a while ago while accessing one of my permissions I walked into 6 Police dog handlers on a training day in among the trees, it was a very good natured exchange.

I asked if they needed any paperwork, The Sergeant replied no, we know you are clear to shoot here and added laughingly just don't confuse the dogs with foxes.

A common sense result all done from my car Reg Number?

Quite probably. However I was pulled up in a works van for having no M.O.T. Apparently it was out of date by several months. I expressed my surprise that I hadn`t been pulled over sooner and the policeman informed me that not all patrol cars carry the ANPR system.

My issue with your statement is Northumbria are issuing photocopy certificates to (in their words) save money.

So how do we stand with that?

Sorry don't quite get this shaun, need to re read the entire post. Under what circumstances do Northumbria issue photocopy certificates?

I was talking of the stop/search situation.

But personally banking on the HO Guidance about production of original certificate. rather than a single Force interpretation?

Added----I really don't get all of the guff about "no need for this , no need for that/" IMO far easier and less stress just to follow the HO Guidance?

It was when it was stated you must show your original,

Northumbria now issue what look like photocopies to save money,

So how would the police know the difference between their "original" photocopy or a copy of their photocopy?

Or am I just getting myself confused here?
