chady
Do you get much discount on new guns or second hand guns from shops? If so how do you go about it to get best results? I'm looking at spending April £2500 on two guns in the near future! But there possibly be a part x envolved! So just wondering if people haggle or not and how much they save? Duckandswing
I've haggled with the ones I've bought from the shop. Rarely get anything knocked off the price, but usually get a slab of carts or a something thrown in for free like a half decent slip. New guns have tight margins.Secondhand guns should have a wider margin because the guy that traded It in got his drawers ripped off him. Davyo
Top tip take £2500 in cash and the last £1 in copper and count it's out, then say " oh I'm now skint haven't even got a penny for my dinner, any change of a slap "
chady
I wouldn't mind if I would just get a decent part x price. I was at a major shooting ground today and I was offered a second hand gun that was only 100 less than a new one! Then they tried to sell me a gun for a hundred more than someone on hear paid and they got a free slip thrown in! They didn't seam interested any way so I think I'll be going else where with my business
Danger-Mouse
It`s worth shopping around. One of my local gunshops will do very good deals on new guns. He doesn`t charge RRP (which makes him unpopular with the dealers), he just makes a few quid on what he buys the guns for. Rather than make a quick buck he`d rather get some customer loyalty by offering a good deal and then get continued custom for further purchases or accessories, cartridges etc.
Shropshire_Lad
You sure do have to shop around. Local to me was only offered £800. for a as new sp1 20 bore, had no or little interest interest off here so phoned around and Gilsans north yorkshire offered a £1000 straight off. Nice day out and got the gun I wanted with a fair trade in price. It sold for them at £1250 inside a week !!
clakk
got my sx3 from melbourne tackle and gun .it was 125 quid less than retail and they price matched a dealer in derby so i saved a journey.as already stated p/x most dealers will pull your pants down.try selling on here or guntrader and put the money in your pot.if your buying two the dealer should be willing to haggle thats a decent sale 2.5k .atb
bostonmick
I think a lot depends on how successful the dealer in question is.If it is a large volume turnover then they really have no need to give any discount on their new stock as most new sales of average guns will only mean a profit of maybe £200.As far as second hand well yes there will be more movement on those sales if the dealer is inclined. My own opinion would be if I was looking at a used gun that cost 2k new I would expect to pay around 1400 to 1500 for a mint condition example. You may find cheaper in the private ads but once you have parted with your money the guarantee is ended. All rfd's are only there to make money they will all have considerable overheads which the cost of must be met by the customer. Also remember that a gun is one of very few things that you buy that will never need replacing in your lifetime if looked after properly. smokinggun
Not if you are buying it from the stuck up horrible lot that run the shop at sporting targets risely but I have had some discount at partridge guns Spalding and fenland rural sports and a couple of others. Dekers
I have bought rifles/shotguns within a radius of around 120 miles from Reading. I have never paid FULL asking price for anything, new or used, there is ALWAYS a deal of some sort to be had, even if this does not actually come down to a cash reduction, it may simply involve extras like ammo, slip, mounts, moderators whatever thrown in! chady
Can you let me know to please, as if reasonable you might get 2.5k his way! I am going to try Melbourne gun and tackle as they were really good when I got my sons junior Rifel. I understand the overheads and not needing to reduce fair enough. It was just there attitude that put us off. Nope. I`ll pm the details if you`re interested.
