Ira
Ive been using Winchester subs in my ruger .22LR since I bought it a couple of years ago and thought they were okay, sometimes had to mess about quite a bit if I were swapping the NV back to the old glass. Then my gun shop said try these RWS, I put the glass scope back on for some day time shooting. Also just made a metal spinning disc for target practice and zeroing. Zeroed it at 80m with out a problem, shot placement was tight and consistent so after messing about and spinning the disc I thought Id try it out in the field. Drove out onto the bottom of the down where there are plenty of bunnies and found I was consistently getting head shots out to 90m, most were much closer, apart from one, my first and second shot fell a bit short so with a bit of adjustment it was cleanly killed, on using the range finder it was 137m. I would not usually even contemplate that distance and would not make a habit of it, but with better flying ammo that I feel happy with I am surprised at how better I seem to be shooting. Happy days and a visit to the game dealer tomorrow, that should pay for the carts for some more pigeon shooting!! Just seen the review on subsonic .22lr ammo on the shooting show, might try the Eley 40grain subs
hawkeye
i use eley 40 grain subs in my bolt action anschutz but they will not cycle in my 10-22 ruger, so i use winchester subs in that and they work OK ..
steve_b_wales
I am using Win' 40gr subs' in my CZ rifle. I've used them for as many years as I care to remember, and have always had good results. I have 1000 left, and will consider trying other brands once these have gone.
bear-uk
My local dealer has stopped getting Eley subs. Shame really as they were perfect. I tried some Fiocchi and they would not cycle properly in my CZ plus had loads of runners. Now going to try the Winchester 40g and see what happens. Ira
had a good bag of rabbits tonight, didn't count how many I shot but I picked up 6 good ones the rest were a little bit small. Must admit it was a bit more tricky tonight, a bit more wind about as well, I still think the RWS are superior to the winchesters. The Wins are very irregular which aint going to assist ones shooting to much!
wymberley
i use eley 40 grain subs in my bolt action anschutz but they will not cycle in my 10-22 ruger, so i use winchester subs in that and they work OK .. Don't know what they're like now, but always used Eley in my Anschutz until they started covering them in muck such that live rounds would not extract. Got fed up and tried SK which turned out to be even more accurate. Oppo persevered until he used up all of his, tried some SK with the same result in his same model rifle and now he's hooked too. SK are 'slick' but not excessively so. Might pay to try a few in both rifles if the one purchase makes things any easier. There's but one 'if' and it's quite a biggy - availability. The Juicer
The eley subs cycle ok in my 10 22 , but Winchester subs do not.
Whitebridges
RWS HP subs work great in my Annie. They are really quiet and accurate. Another thumbs up for SK Lapua HP subsonics which seem to have a bit more zip than the RWS. POA is very close but I do use a little hold under for shots a bit further out. The rabbits don't notice any difference. Edited July 9, 2015 by Whitebridges
hawkeye
Winchesters in my annie i can get a better and tighter pattern with my shotgun, but with eleys its spot on. Now my 10-22 will not recycle eleys ( think its all the **** on them ) but it is spot on with winchesters so i am going to try the new 42 grain winchester and see what thats like in the annie. All i want is one make that will work in both guns saves a lot of pratting about having to get different loads when i go to the gun shop.. Ginger_Swingers
Just taken delivery of a 500rd brick of Win subs in 42gn and hope they perform well enough. I've used the 40gn ones with good results.
bruno22rf
Bin trying to sing the RWS subs praises for years on this forum but my words have largely fell on deaf ears-at last someone else has seen the light-they also do a HV hp that is stupidly accurate but getting hold of them is difficult. Ira
Its only because everyone I know uses Winchester, it wasn't until the shop ran out and a couple of got the RWS we realised we were missing a trick, didn't even cross our minds that the wins were getting less and less reliable. So I am told the old blue boxes that the winchesters used to come in were of far better quality than the new stuff?? RWS for me now anyways!! Had a good evening out last night, not too many to pick up as they were too small, but I made a start on refilling the freezer. I took a freezer and a half of rabbits and woodies to Phil at Godmersham game yesterday, very nice chap, he's giving £1.50 head shot, fresh or frozen, paunched rabbit and 40p fresh or frozen woodies. If it pays for the ammo and a few clays for slow days then Im a happy man.
kenj
Always used Eley subs in my Magtech 7022, until dealer couldn't get them any more. Tried Winchesters, which were a nightmare. Now use RWS which are spot on accurate to 60 yards for bunny bashing. No misfires and cheaper than Eley. I've just bought another 500, which are just as consistent. This was my review http://www.urbanfieldsportsman.com/index.php/rws-22-subsonics-v-winchester-sx-subsonics-in-the-magtech-7022-semi-auto/

I have just got a brick of Geco Semi-Auto specific rounds to try out. Could you tell me what the red-dot sight on your Magtech is please, as I am thinking of getting one for my Voere semi-auto. cooter
Two guys I used to work with, who are accomplished target shooters, told me about the RWS 100 they take part in every year. They both swore by RWS and would not use anything else. RWS are a little bit more expensive than the other common brands at my RFD. They have a smaller but very consistent hollow point, unlike Winnies, and they don't get coated in wax like the Eley do. I find that the RWS pass through bunnies more than any other 22 sub I have used. I just started using Remington subs, as they are all that are available from my local RFD, but keep a few boxes of RWS for when I want to remind myself how accurate the .22lr can be with good ammo. Savhmr
Can't complain with the Eley subs I use with my 77/22 Remi. Accurate and expand well enough to stop anything hit by them. Consistent between batches too.
Ira
Eley are supposed to be the best I might give em a try next?? I watched a review and I think they had the best expansion as well as the most consistent Edited July 21, 2015 by Ira
