Whilst Mightymariner and a friend were scouring one part of our area I took to touring the Wolds in another direction.

I was quite prepared not to bother setting up as I enjoyed looking round parts of East Lindsey that I have not seen before. The dogs were getting bored, Jasper in particular, so I decided to park up by a field which had been taken for silage three weeks ago and give them a spin. As I walked across the field a few pigeons got off at one corner and on close inspection I could see a decent amount of clover coming back through. Some more came in as I watched. This was 3:30 this afternoon.

The farm was easy to find and a ruddy faced farmer having his combine serviced was all ears as I told him that I was interested in shooting pigeons and corvids. The latter were already pecking his silage bales I was told.

What joy to be able to drive round to my chosen position. Not many crows came back and I only shot two. A number of pigeons either came back to the decoys or crossed me heading elsewhere and I picked 35 out of the 37 on my clicker.

Within ten minutes of packing up I was agreeing a deal with the chef of the local pub at the rate of ten pigeons per pint of expensive lager. That was a result.
