beesley121
Hi guys,I have about 50 wood pigeons that have been shot today, now I would love to sell them on to buy more carts but I don't know anywhere or anyone around my way that would want them - I'm in Widnes Cheshire not far from Liverpool. Anyone know who may want them?
Bluebarrels
Don't take this the wrong way mate, but I always have somewhere/someone to pass bag excess (Pigeons) on before I shoot them BB
beesley121
Pigeons were trampling down the wheat mate and making a right mess so the farmer got on the phone to me to sort them out. I wasn't shooting for the pot, but as I've shot so many, it seems a shame to throw them all away. I've kept some but I can't keep all of them as I haven't the room
malantone
Get around the hotels /restaurants in the area, local butchers might take them but anyone who does will probably want them dressed.
TR1
Just breast them out and throw the rest away. That won't take up much room.
fortune
look on youtube how to crown a pigeon soon before they go off. it's easy and doesnt take long. you can freeze the breasts and use them in different ways over a period of time. fortune
Or sell them Yes, you have this option also. It's just finding someone that wants them now. That's why BB posted #2. whatever you decide you have to do it soon or no one will want them.
marsh man
Look in the Yellow pages for Game Dealers in your area then give them a ring , you will have to be quick before they start turning green , normally this time of the year you need to get them to the dealers the next day at the latest if not you will have to freeze them or ............dump them . Cranfield
Just breast them out and throw the rest away. That won't take up much room. Good advice, not many people turn down the chance of pigeon breasts, fresh, or frozen. You should of course offer some to the farmer, I always do, but I have never had one say "Yes" yet. CharlieT
That's why BB posted #2. Let us all remember that we shoot woodies at the farmers pleasure and whilst it may be sport to us, to the farmer it represents hard earned income and what happens once they are shot and not eating his profit is of little consequence. I can only imagine the the following phone conversation................ Hello Mr Shooter, Mr Farmer here, the pigeon are decimating my winter wheat and I'm desperate, can you come asap and sort it for me. Oh, I'll have to get back to you on that Mr Farmer, I just need a few days to find someone to take them as I don't approve of wasting natures resorces. That's fine Mr Shooter, I applaud your ethical values, after all, it's only a seasons work and several hundred pounds worth of wheat going to waste. Thanks for being so understanding Mr Farmer, I'll keep my fingers crossed someone wants them.
Luckyshot
Just chuck them this time and look for a buyer for any more you shoot at a later date.

What both of us we pointing out was the fact that a bit of fore thought as to what could be done to use the shot birds might have been a good idea in the event of a big surplus to his requirements rather than dumping them for the maggots. In the event he did have a good day and has found an outlet that wants the birds, which will help him with the cost of cartridges. Well done Beesley. Spot on fortune. Since I shot a modest bag of pigeon on beech mast last October I have only bought red meat three times, one of those being when on holiday. Burgers , pies. con carne, mince, spag bol and no doubt loads of other beef recipes can be made from pigeon breasts. A home mincer was one of my better investments but make sure the breasts are well chilled or partially frozen as they mince up better this way. Also add a bit of fat in the shape of pork belly or bacon product. Neither have I bought white meat in the shape of chicken or turkey since November 2014. With a lot of Guns no longer wanting there is always room for them in the extra chest freezer installed in my shed. Blackpowder
