WelshAndy
Recently got my haro revo (1998) from my mums garage and it's in a pretty poor state. The once chrome frame is covered in rust spots! I'd like to give it to my lad but need to freshen it up first. What would be the best way to paint it? Is it a DIY job? If I was to strip everything off the frame how do you remove the chain? Any advice welcome Cheers Andy

WelshAndy
Ok, how would you sort the frame out?
Lewi76
Best way is re Crome it mate you can get the stickers , a mate of mine does box restoration I will get details from him if you like . Dunkield
If the chain doesn't have a split link you will need a chain splitter to get it apart. Assuming the chain is pretty low tech a cheap one will do it Something like: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/tools-maintenance/tools/topeak-universal-bike-chain-tool
guzzicat
If money is a problem with re/chrome of frame, I had a pair of motorcycle wheel rims chrome "powder coated" & you had to look real close to tell the difference& a fraction of the price. panoma1
If the chrome is just rust spots and stains salvo auto sol (from a car accessories shop) should improve it?
Muddy Funker
Can you post a few pics if it's not too much hassle?I've been thinking of doing something like this as a bit of a project.I'm 39 now and I'm staggered at how much some of the bikes of my younger years are going for on the bay!I'm looking at raleigh burners, pk ripper, redline, mongoose, diamond back. Even as wrecks they are going for a lot of money.Be interesting to see how yours turns out should be a fun project
aka_t50
if you want a cheap clean for chrome take a look on youtube at tin foil to clean chrome works a treat
brett1985
i had a Haro Shredder back when I was about 14/15. got given it as it had been left in a garden and gone rusty (spots all over the chrome!) ultra fine grade wire wool and lots of WD40 removed the rust without scratching the chrome, then a really good polish with autosol. worked a treat and the bike looked almost perfect. absolutely gutted I ever got rid now if im honest

Del T
Good lad. I used a tiny bit of tin foil and water as my frame was pretty mint. Looks like yours is coming up a treat too.

Cheers Did you remove the stickers and replace with new ones on yours? Did yours have the blue bits originally?
Muddy Funker
Awesome.I watched a youtube vid as suggested earlier out of curiosity and the results looked amazing. Your pics confirm it works what a brilliant trick. That bike will be great!
Del T
I left my stickers on as the frame in that spot was ok. Plus I didn't want replica stickers. The bits were always blue as I remember but I did get the bike 2nd hand from my neighbour when I was about 10. (now 37). The bars are not the originals nor is the crank set and the dia compe brakes as these got swapped over years back. The originals will be in my dads garage somewhere. The new gum walls came from the USA along with nos ame grips. Relaced the araya wheels with new spokes and tape along with new hub and free wheel. WelshAndy
I was hoping to leave the sticker but one or two are damaged. I'd like a set of amber walls but I'm pretty sure the bike still has the original haro tyres! It's a job to know what to do as I don't want to spoil it now I know its a keeper! Would you keep it original or would you change a few things? I quite like the look of this one https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/16225137680_ff2eb593df_b.jpg
Del T
Its up to you but I would keep it as original as possible. Some of my stickers are a bit rough but they are genuine ones that came when it left the factory so I thought they would be worth leaving. The original bikes are more sought after if you ever wanted to sell. I will be keeping mine for my lad.
WelshAndy
Fair comment, I'll try and leave the original stickers.
WelshAndy
Here she is Not 100% but a lot better! I'll continue to keep it clean and hopefully it won't end up in the same state as last time!
SPARKIE
nice bike...i do like old bmx's but they dont have a patch on new bikes on the track. i used to have a burner years ago and have many a time thought about getting a pk ripper or the likes as i see a lot about. my lad races bmx so spend a lot of time at tracks around the midlands and get to see allsorts but for now ill stick to my redline flight pro cruiser.
