rimfire4969
This season our pheasants seem to be doing their best to avoid the start of the season by not growing enough. Nothing has changed with our timing but our first shoot on the 10th is how going to be a walk around more of a pushing the birds about than a shoot. How are everyone's doing? Nmb
Our birds arrived in late July and are looking good for our shoot on the 10th. Interestingly our neighbour got his birds in mid August and they really seem to be quite small.
malantone
Got ours 26th June, they are now tailed up looking strong, we still aren`t starting until the 17th, it will give them the best chance.
kennett
Got mine first week in August, to shoot beginning of Nov. Growing really well, most young cocks are only obvious by some mottled grey heads. Mine are doing their best to walk away though, never known a year like it for strayinh
trevor8262
im the same kennett cant stop them from straying ,not doing anything different from last year . trev
Arley
Lots of natural food about and sunny weather always makes straying more likely. Role on some cold weather

simjakcal
We had ours 4wks late at the beginning of august, had gape in 2 of the 3 pens and treated, yet 1 pen still has got a couple showing signs ! The hens are coming on great as are the cock birds, their starting to show signs of colour and all tailing up nicely.. So far their holding really well compared to last year, lots still in the pens and surrounding wood.. First boundary shoot this Saturday, hopefully there should still be some of last years about to have a shot at !
Alycidon
Birds are all fine, no disease this year what so ever, getting everywhere as you might expect. Dont shoot for another 3 weeks yet which will just be a flying exercise for the birds. A

rimfire4969
Had a nice walk around yesterday. Our ducks look great and about 100 got up off one of our ponds and done some great high circuits in smaller groups then dropped back to a different pond. Pheasants are looking good at least the ones I saw.
scolopax
They were looking great, but they have all bogged off. Happens every year so I should know by now not to panic too much but I have a horrible feeling that this year they really have gone (happened once before). Only seeing a fraction of what there should be.
Scully
They were looking great, but they have all bogged off. Happens every year so I should know by now not to panic too much but I have a horrible feeling that this year they really have gone (happened once before). Only seeing a fraction of what there should be. I know the feeling. We see less and less of ours as the summer goes by but they always turn up for shoot days. We are seeing odd numbers so I'm assuming (hoping!) that this season they do the same, but we've had a fox we just can't get to grips with. Now the last of the spring barley has been cut (where we think it's been living) it may have moved on; what damage it's done remains to be seen. Fingers crossed for decent results. Scully
Seeing birds in increasing quantities of numbers now, which is heartening, plus mate counted 21 red legs the other day on our rough shoot! We bought two pairs a couple of season ago and landowners Mam forbade us to shoot them, but we didn't see much of them anyhow, and up until a couple of weeks ago had only seen solitary birds, so not sure if they've bred from ours or are someone else's. The nearest shoot to us with Partridge is two miles away so it's perfectly feasible. Anyhow, they seem perfectly at home in the winter barley and are living in the railway banking we think. We wont be shooting them; nice to see.
wiltshirekeeper
I have 200 acres of forestry ground. It's our first season Put 100 pheasants down seen odd ones but it's so wild and not easily accessed it's hard to tell where they are. Some drives are 50 acres of fallen trees and braken so not surprising. Not helped by the fact this 'crow act' allows people to go anywhere in the wood is far from ideal. Can't feed it as I would like as any feeders near rides get pushed over or emptied and hidden,so The hoppers are out of public view. It's only a casual shoot so no one is under pressure . The neighbouring shoot puts down thousands and shoots 3 days a week so I'm sure we will be getting a few as the weeks go on (although I'm not encouraging it)
ollie
We got left down initially by our supplier, so we had to find someone at last minute, so we got the birds about 3 weeks later than we normally would. This has put us back, so no shooting until the start of November which isn't a bad thing as the cover is still very high because of the warm weather and it would be very tough on the dogs. Birds are in good shape and colouring up very well. The corvids have started on the feeders around the shoot, they are a real pain. Found my first sign of a pheasant kill on Saturday, so I am off out tonight to find the culprit (I know it is a fox).
rimfire4969
We had a walk around Saturday, the duck were great and flew really well and I managed to drop a good bird. We pushed in a few hedges and cauli fields hoping to find a few of last years birds, we did succeed to push some of the younger birds back to where we would like them and bagged a few fully tailed birds. Looking forward to our next shoot in 2 weeks.
