Back on the crows

Finally the maize has been cut on one of the farms that I shoot and on Friday there were some good numbers of crows showing. Despite the rubbish weather I decided to have a day after them on Saturday.

When the alarm went of at 5.45 a.m the rain was sheeting down and I considered going back to bed...but I have never had much sense. Got set up for about 7.00 with around 18 flocked full bodied decoys and in they came almost straight away. Had some good shooting until about 10 accounting for 50, then it slowed down. At this point I decided to go and put up some rope bangers to keep them moving about. I headed over to the other side of the farm and found about 300 crows on another freshly cut maize field....I decided to go back to where I had been and set up a rope banger and move to the new field.

Set up again about 11 and again some really good interest until about 2 when it went quiet for a couple of hours until a final push just as it was getting dark. All in all a good days shooting accounting for 104 and 2 pigeons.

Since the crows were shot in different fields there are 2 pics:

I went back to the farm yesterday morning to see the farmer for 5 minutes to find 200-300 more crows on the same field I had shot first on Saturday. I managed to get some time off work after I sorted a few bits out. Not ideal as I had missed the best couple of hours for crow interest (first thing) , and the weather was not great. I started shooting about 9.30 on the maize and managed 15 before it slowed down. I found the bulk of the crows had moved to a field that had been recently spread with slurry. Got set up there for the rest of the day and managed a total of 60 and 3 magpies.

One of the crows I shot (carrion crow) had white wing feathers. I have seen a few before but never managed to shoot one .
