Brixsmaid
Just seen this http://www.nationalgamekeepers.org.uk/news/fairness-in-wild-bird-licensing-as-keeper-wins-landmark-legal-battle
robbiep
That really is a 'landmark' judgement.

Danger-Mouse
A shame it`s come too late to save his livelihood but good news for future cases.
scotslad
Aye very well done to NGO, hopefully some licences will follow this. Compare this to the state in Scotland where 4 estates have just been banned from using the General Licences (not allowed to conrol crows or pigeons for 3 years), despite not been found guilty of any wildlife crime but are suspected off it. Complete ******** from SNH, and they are just as bad as NE in never granting a licence to control BoP nomatter wot evidence is presented
Blackpowder
That Gamekeeper was picking up where I was beating last week, where in conversation at lunchtime with other keepers present he was adamant that the same ruling would also apply in Scotland. Well done the Judge. Blackpowder

Well done the Judge. Blackpowder Yup, the same will now apply in Scotland and in Wales - where authorities have also been incredibly reluctant to grant licences to fisheries for Cormorant control, among other things. I see a fair number of reviews taking place, to forestall the risk of legal action.

malkiserow
It is the right outcome and demonstrates fairness and equality by the High Court. I am intrigued that David Bellamy was clearly so delighted in that picture.

Its been a while but I am positive of reading that David Bellamy has spoken publicly in favour of shooting, and its all round benefits to wildlife and the countryside some time in the past. Blackpowder Thats the reason u no longer see him on TV and instead we have muppets like packman. Think Bellamy is a patron of the NGO or heavily involved with them as well as some other pro shooting moorland groups. On the other end of the scale i see the landowner has been fined 200+K of his SFP for that keeper who had a freezer full of dead BoP's and some in feed bags all over the spot. U don't get fines like that for murder or the most serious of crimes, yes he had quite a few breaches etc but a 200k fine? And how much would the landowner actually know?? A keeper near me was found guility recently, yet had NO evidence, no body, no feathers/forensics. All they had was 2 eyewitnesses that say they seen him do it. Thats like me and a mate just accusng someone of murder and him being found guily with no body or forensics just on our witness statements. Still a long way to go until getting a truely fair hearing and being reported as such by various tabloids/press releases. Think there is around 5x the population of buzzards to Cormarants, so in theory EN should have no problem issueing licences for 5x as many buzzards to be controlled, if the evidence is there and shoots meet the criteria

Blackpowder Yes, he has, as has Robin Page, formerly of One Man and his Dog. Neither are any longer employed by the BBC. You'll have to decide for yourself if there's a link between one and the other.
