FalconFN
I need to extend the LOP of a gun by around 20 mm (3/4"). I bought some 10 mm ebony with the view that I would do a permanent stock extension but I've had no luck steam bending the bits enough so that idea is out. I am now looking at leather slip-on pads but don't know if tie-on or elasticated gusset types are better, any advice or experience would be great. wisdom
They do stain I bought 2 guns off a friend who was packing up.Both are a stained nearly black where they've been left on.Next question is how can I get the stain off not wishing to hijack the post. They do work very well though. Edited December 20, 2015 by wisdom
welshwarrior
OP pacmayer are best that Velcro on don't leave it on or the stock will turn deal brown black. Wisdom, depends on your stock finish PM and I'll talk you through it.
humperdingle
I made this one from thick veg tan leather but never used it... Don't think I dyed the inside but would need to check. If undyed, i'm not sure how it could stain the wood?
winnie&bezza
If left on and stock subjected to sunlight then it could leave a taint.
steve_b_wales
I used a rubber slip on pad with a piece of shaped wood placed inside, before attaching to the stock. This was to extend the stock length when using an add on NV monocular (Cobra Merlin) It was only used for this purpose so didn't stay on the stock for long. Wingman
Look at the pachmayr decelerator slip on pads, I bought one for my Spanish SbS and it's really good. Ads 20mm to the.LOP and softens the recoil a lot. I bought mine in medium size for my straight stock and it seems to fit fine.
FalconFN
Thanks all. I had seen a Velcro leather one but I shoot from my left shoulder so I thought it may catch on my clothes as I raise the gun, I'll look for the Pachmayr one instead
fortune
Be careful they stain the stock. Don't leave it on They do stain I bought 2 guns off a friend who was packing up.Both are a stained nearly black where they've been left on.Next question is how can I get the stain off not wishing to hijack the post. They do work very well though. One of the son in laws put one on his silver pig and it really stained the stock. A furniture restorer frien managed to reset the coloir of the wood and gently remove the stain. If left on and stock subjected to sunlight then it could leave a taint. In the son in laws case the stain was not as a result of being left in sunlight. it was a direct stain from the rubber sleeve. I would use one but take it off every time after use. There must have been a chemical reaction from the rubber to the wood
wisdom
On mine the stain appears to have been from a reaction not sunlight.
Dougy
On mine the stain appears to have been from a reaction not sunlight. That's it. It's a sort of staining that's hard to remove. I am intending to completely re do the stock.
Wingman
Strange, I have never suffered any staining or stock damage from using them.
