McSpredder
Maybe something to do with slope of windscreens and headlamps, or height of the driving seat? Minimum scattering of light when the rays are perpendicular to glass (eg light from headlamps with vertical lenses, viewed through a near-vertical windscreen on an old-fashioned car, Defender, Jimny, etc). Worst scatter when light comes from faired-in, streamlined headlamps, and is viewed through a modern car's sloping windscreen. Effects from scratched or pitted glass are worse with a sloping windscreen than a vertical one. Dazzle will be worst if you are in a low-slung car, least if you are in a high truck. That's the theory. In practice, do streamlined cars dazzle you more than trucks, which still tend to have vertical headlamp lenses? If you drive different types of vehicle, do you actually notice less dazzle through near-vertical windscreens? Lastly, old age makes the eyes more susceptible to dazzle, which is tough for us geriatrics.
Scully
Only in Cumbria Bet you got a custom bunnet holder fitted as well Mate has a pair also and bloke who aligned mine bought some too. He was very impressed. If I knew what a 'bunnet holder' is I might have it customised.
Breastman
A pair of yellow lensed shooting glasses cuts the glare down Most people don't seem to have a clue about how to/how you're supposed to use lights these days, always makes me cringe when people are driving around some times days after there's been fog with their rear foglight still on as they don't know how to turn it off Edited December 21, 2015 by Breastman
Dave-G
There is a new type of headlight bulb going about that doesn't have a 'pattern' as my MOT tester says. They seem to be more of a floodlight that easily impresses brainless types woh cannot fathom that floodlights lack penetration at distance. So a bunnet holder is a hook to hang your bunnet,

rodp
I fitted some LED illuminated headlights designed for a Humvee to my Landrover this year and had them aligned by a local garage. They throw a very low horizontal arc of light but are very bright and I am occasionally flashed by oncoming traffic. Despite this I know they are legal and fitted and aligned correctly. So, where do you get these ? Working on the principle of "if you can't beat em, join em".
Westley
Totally agree! I do nearly 40k miles a year and the number of mercs and audis now with white bright headlights that blind you is becoming a bloody joke! Maybe they are using up surplus ME109 landing lights then ? Scully
So, where do you get these ? Working on the principle of "if you can't beat em, join em". I bought them from a company called FP&S Trailer Parts. My mate works for them. The bulbs (LED) were apparently developed to withstand the impact of a parachute drop when in situ, in situ being the headlamp of a Humvee. A rep' asked my mate if he knew of anyone with a Landrover who would be willing to fit them and use their vehicle as a demo' of sorts, and mate said 'Yes, I have a Landrover.' I then bought a pair some time ago and the bloke who aligned them for me also bought a pair.

I shall have to make enquires about these sort of lights . When I opened the bonnet on the new (to me) disco I spotted two boxes marked "HID capacitive discharge units" or something like that. I thought YES , but it wasn't to be, units there but standard bulbs fitted
Vince Green
My beef is not the headlights its the massive LED rear light red clusters on the back of a lot of modern SUVs and cars. Driving back from South Wales to London on the M4 on a pitch black wet Sunday night is hell. The traffic is manic and bunched right up. Every time one of these beasts in front of me hits the the brakes the low sloping windscreen on my DB9 used to light up like it was back lit. It was one of the reasons I got rid of it My present old Merc is also low and the screen also slopes and its still blinding. Espescially in the rain.
