Early morning foxing

Happy New Year everybody.

Mid Wales has experienced a little more rain then usual which has somewhat limited the opportunities to get out with the rifle.

I trusted the weather forecast on Saturday night which meant after a bit of film viewing I left the house at 12.30 ...whilst it was tipping down. I arrived on the first patch of ground (a newish permission) just before 1.00 a.m and got set up. Due to the ground being so flat I tend to find a parking spot and get the rifle set up on the roof of my pick up to give me a safe shooting angle. Nothing in the first spot so moved on. Due to the time of year I am using the foxpro with a couple of downloaded tracks (dog fox, vixen call and gekkering). Not long to wait and had a nice dog fox trot across the field. Fell to an 80 grain bullet in the bib at about 25 yards, not exactly challenging but effective. Spent another hour on this farm with no more lucc.

Over to the next farm...nothing...it was now 3.30...decided to try one last farm and a patch I havent been round for a little while.

Got set up on the back of the pick up with a good view over 3 steep fields that border a wood. Pu the caller on to be greeted by a vixen and dog calling in the wood. I alternated the dog and vixen call and then put the gekkering on and saw the first fox. He trotted (barking away) down the field behind a fence and cleared the fence at around 70 yards. He fell to a chest shot. Waited 5 mins before going to get him. Got down off the pick up and caught site of another fox in the field to my right....back up onto the truck. Got sorted and shot this one at about 30 yards. Went and picked up the 2 foxes. The dog was a big old lad and the second was a nice vixen. As it was getting late (or early) I had one last look to see another set of eyes...At around 70 yards she presented a nice broadside shot..no 3 down (another vixen). It was now 4.45 a.m and time for bed. 4 foxes down so worth the effort. Thanks for reading

well done mike cracking bit of fox control ive heard the gekkering sound really weird where did you download it from

Cheers Remmy.

Gekkering...not a simple one mate unfortunately. I have a music recorder on my laptop at home so I recorded a clip of gekkering foxes off you tube or the british sound library (cant remember which) . I then had to convert the file to MP3 and upload it onto the foxpro...managed it with some help above my IQ grade (fortunately my wife is a lot brighter then me) I find that the vixen or dog call will work on its own but the gekkering really catches their attention and brings them in.
