Hamster
Everything on a like for like basis is significantly cheaper at Aldi and Lidl (as much as 40% or even more ) but of course there are some things which they don't do so a trip to Morrisons or occasionally Tesco is still necessary. I struggle to think of much that isn't at least as good quality as the rip off merchants but find for instance that pre packed hams go off very quickly and aren't particularly nice anyway so I avoid them. The major area of concern with both Aldi and Lidl though is customer service and generally tatty presentation and staff blocking isles with shed size trollies. Asda prices seem like Harrods after Aldi.
pjw4233
The lack of presentational awareness and logic in their aisles puts me off. The fact it's German owned and the checkout experience is awful I refuse to shop there. I prefer meat from local butcher's or Booths which sources meat locally, I buy vegetables from local farms and try to just use supermarkets for cleaning products and convieance food etc via online shopping so that I don't have the step foot in them! Reading the comments on wine, I may be tempted!
winnie&bezza
Agree hamster about the stacking Trollies in the way. We buy soda water and at Aldi they have soda water, tonic water and one I can't remember all in one stack and if one layer hasn't any soda water on then you have to try and tilt a layer to get to what you want underneath and sometimes I just don't bother. Next time it happens I'll have to say something.
rjimmer
Local Aldi and Lidl stores need bigger car parks.
Penelope
Yes, like their 'Alfredo' Inferno pizzas. The hottest thing this side of the Sahara, but alas, no more . Don't use Aldi but I can't praise Lidl's food enough. Great quality at best prices and ever increasing range. Their fillet steak is to die for as is their generic French pongy cheese! Their turkey crown at Christmas couldn't be faulted either, quality and quantity. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable as well. Only minor complain, frequent range changes where something you have really grown to like is suddenly discontinued. Their household cleaning stuff can't be beaten either, I'm reliably informed! You can't beat the Aldi fishing shooting bag, though.

Zapp
We've just had a new Lidl open in my hometown - it's one of the new large stores and it's great!
Danger-Mouse
Yes, like their 'Alfredo' Inferno pizzas. The hottest thing this side of the Sahara, but alas, no more . I remember those, they were seriously hot even for me and I like spicy food. Didn`t think I`d seen any for a while.
secretagentmole
Yes they have and I suppose that to take customers away from the likes of m&s and waitrose they have to add more 'fancier' food. I love their 28 day aged steaks and I also really like their ostrich steaks in marinade. The specially selected cheesecakes are lovely to. When I started to go to Aldi nearly 2 years ago I wasn't impressed with stacking etc but it has improved a lot although some things need some more thought. They also need to add more basic products like baking/parchment paper which I've only seen at my one once and never again so I have to go elsewhere for it but that's minor I suppose. Their tinfoil actually has metal in it! Compared to the normal Alcan rubbish this is more like aluminium sheeting than tinfoil! loriusgarrulus
Tesco are bad for range changes. Used to shop a lot there for my Dad as it was the only big supermarket where he lived. Dad was often disappointed that they had stopped stocking something he had grown to like.
