The artiacle says 'fences' not 'walls' so I guess that is just like round a golf driving range? pin
If its going to be within 275M of something they don't want shot falling on, the problem won't be the shot, it will be the noise. Perhaps its all to do with noise anyway
mossy835
they spend all that money doing it, now this has come up,another waste of tax payers money.
Mungler
Bit of a joke really. It should have gone to Dartford - good transport links, existing club and in the middle of nowhere. The club would have retained the benefit long term, whereas I understand the current proposal is a bit on the temporary side i.e. it's all coming down after 2012

The artiacle says 'fences' not 'walls' so I guess that is just like round a golf driving range? I think they should have it at Bisley and pump a bit of money into the 'home of shooting' It should have been at Bisley, and indeed Bisley were approached by the government. But Bisley, all credit to them said that they would only allow it if the British pistol shooting squad could have the ban lifted in order that they could practise in their own country rather than flying to switzerland etc. Government said no way, so Bisley told them to find somewhere else. Seemed a compromise should have been done by the government, after all all foreign competitors can have their guns bought in to the country to remain with them, but the british team have to import their guns back from wherever they practise and then have them impounded until the competition actually starts Plus its costing those living in the east end a fortune in council tax. Wookie
Completely right! The same thing with the mountain bike course. They are building a pretty much flat one in east london instead of using Epping forest, which has some good trails as it is. The fact that the budget estimates have doubled within a year of the win being announced makes me pretty angry.
Cranfield
I thought Bisley was rejected, as being too far from London. It would be nice if the money spent on all the new facilities, could mean that the facilities would be left there for people to enjoy in the future. naddan28
Yeah, whats the sense of pulling out down afterwards!!!! Waste all the money building it completely then Unless the government is going to sell the land for private development? Surely a prime located clay site in london would make a killing??? il cacciatore
Clay shooting is quite 'in vogue' with professionals now. They should have revoked the pistol ban for these Olympics. Just goes to show that politicians are just after quick vote grabbing stunts.

I believe that is the official line, Bisley wasn't too far from Manchester when they held the Commonwealth games though was it. Someone ought to buy Seb Coe an atlas. Catamong
It's such a shame, as Mungler has already said, Dartford is the ideal venue, relatively good access for everybody, absolutely oodles of space in which to set up both ISU & OT layouts, and the bonus is, all of us fortunate shooters in the South East will benefit for years thereafter. So what's the problem..??, I'm not sure that the CPSA have fully argued the case for Dartford, I know the proposed site in Woolwich, and to seriously suggest that it's feasible to build a 21 metre, (yes that's about 70 feet high..!!) barrier around the ground is a complete joke..!! Let's see what happens next..?? Cat
pin
With these 70 foot high walls, lets assume they are going to be white. Hmm.... I am thinking they would surround the ground, like a kind of semi circle? Right? I think its MILLENNIUM DOME II - "son of dome!" they are trying to build here! il cacciatore
I think all this copying East Germany really has went to Tony's head and he's starting to construct the Berlin wall. That started as a fence you know.

Catamong
There ain't no fence that will stand 70 ft tall, the January gales will see to that..!! Remember the devastation at Dartford in mid January..?? Cat
pin
Was that the devastation we reigned down on the clays that day? Or do you mean the decimation of the shooting ground the wind caused?

tuck1
There was talk about this back when the winning bid was announced. There was a slightly different take on the "fence" issue though. Some bright spark proposed that, due to the handgun ban, there would be problems with shooters and security. A high fence would prevent.. (this is the best bit wait for it, drum roll please...) competitors THROWING their pistols to the outside of the arena to waiting undesireables!!! I kid you not. Takes your breath away doesn't it? Picture the scene. Billy Scrotebag and Johnny Fartpants, in their old Transit van, planning to turn over a securicor van. Should we go down the local and get ourselves a sawn off for £20? No, tell you what, I've got a better idea etc etc. Beggars belief. Tuck
