winnie&bezza
If somehow I managed to get gun and load it before meeting burglar then yes I would use it if he was armed but if he wasn't armed then I'd just point it at him and hopefully he'd do one. But half asleep and adrenaline running its something that you can't say id do this or that. As digger says, its not worth being a hero even if you don't like given in (like me). Yes we digress. fenboy
I know that if they are beating your partner then you'll hand over the keys but if you are alone and refuse to give them the guns, then I struggle to believe they would kill you and risk a murder charge over a couple of guns. Not that it's worth risking it though. If you heard noises downstairs and managed to get your gun and then was confronted by them I wonder what people on here would do? It's a horrible situation to be in. You may be correct , I don't mind the odd bet , don't think I would want to gamble with my life though . If people are not afraid to smash their way into your house while you are home and proceed to knock the **** out of you they are hardly little lambs are they . winnie&bezza
I think there is a difference between someone who breaks in and beats you up a bit to someone who breaks in and kills you without blinking an eye and walks off without worrying. The scum that did it to George wouldn't of killed him for just his guns but he did the right thing as you don't know what's gonna happen at the time. No they aren't little lambs Fenboy, they are rogue wolves that need to be destroyed :-) You will probably find that if you got the attackers on their own one by one they would turn into little lambs. I am speaking from having personal experience having many dealings with people (if you can call them that) like that over the years. I feel the reason you don't hear of more people being killed by this type of criminals is that people tend to give them what ever they want before it gets to that stage. Milo
There are two reasons that you are required to store your guns in cabinets or gun rooms rather than having them lying about the place in your house. Unsurprisingly, the principle reason is to prevent theft or use by unauthorised persons, even members of your own family. The second less well known reason is to reduce the likelihood of you using them to protect your property with lethal force.
Twistedsanity
lower welfare, poor wages and unaffordable rents are a sure fire way of increasing crime, lots of burglaries, home invasions and car break ins round here this year, people getting attacked for their dogs etc. It must be awful to have your home invaded and robbed and he has my sympathies but this behaviour is only going to become more commonplace in this country where people are struggling to put food on the table while others live in big houses driving big cars. The reason we had a welfare system was so the wealthy could walk down the road without fear of being robbed , take that away and we are returning to the dark ages again

poontang
What's with all this talk of 'home invasions'? What happened to GD was a robbery. Let's not Americanise our language... or should that be Americanize?

mattyg1086
The truth if the matter is you dont know what you would do if in that situation he had already been beaten so maybe he tried to not give the guns up but after being beaten and his wife threatened thought better of it and gave them up. A guy i know who is seriously frightening person is 21 stone and is proficient in several martial arts and was a doorman for years always said to me the art of a true warrior is to live to fight another day. In other words fighting is the last resort
