BangBangNik
Bought a brick of Winchester 42gr max sub sonics not too long ago, normally just use the 40gr ones.......and a hell of a lot of them seem to be going supersonic! Anybody else noticed this or have I just got a bad batch? I've heard people talk about having the occasional sub sonic go super and wondered if I ever had and just not really noticed but there is no mistaking it when it happens. Bazooka Joe
Cannot comment on the 42g, but a good few years ago I had the same problem with the 40g, Over half a brick let a crack off. The next time I was in the gun shop I mentioned it, they said the rep was due in that day & they would have a word. His answer was, with the 22 been the most mass produced round what did I expect, obviously a few would go awol...
Outdoorsman
Ive gone through 500 of the 42 grainers and there is something off about them, i noticed i was getting runners on rabbits that were then dropping 10-15 yrds away some head shot asthough the bullet was just zipping through and not delivering anything, i was getting some misses that i knew wernt my fault so i set up a target shot about 20 shots at it and ended up with 2 groups one that was 2-3 inches lower that the other, ive since baught some eleys and rws subs just need to try them
Dougy
That's the inconsistency of some 22lr. Never had that with RWS
Euget123
Had it a wile back with the 40gr, wasnt impressed at all with the 42 but for other reasons. Shoot eleys now with no problems!

Interesting you say that, I had a couple do exactly the same last time I was out - I put it down to getting a stray HV in my pocket but perhaps not... BangBangNik
I'm not impressed at all. I set a couple of targets up today to shoot some groups, I'd get a good group of 2 or 3 shots and then a supersonic flyer came through an inch or two high and wrecked it! Rimfireboy
Ive had two boxes of the 42's, just to try. Didn't have any problems with the ones I used but still prefer eleys or rws subs.
fortune
The American brands of ammo are generally a good bit hotter than our European brands. I bought a thousand Remington STD vel target ammo for 22prone for target. All of it was supersonic. It was useless for high precision target shooting. I used them as barrel warmers. Most if not all, of the Winchester 22lr is made in Australia. One of the son in laws gave me a brick of 42grn because they wouldn't cycle through his CZ auto. The tip of the bullet kept catching up on the top of the reciever. No problem with this through my bolt action. welshwarrior
Few people have complained Remi subs go supersonic but work great on my Desmond. RWS are very accurate but equally slow. The 42 grain winnys only used 2 boxes where very good for me.
kent
I got a refund on my last brick of Winchester. Rims were out of spec by a lot Quality in my opinion has gone backwards fast on this brand
fortune
The quality of Eley has been bad recently. A bloke at work had TEN misfires out of a box of subs. I advised him to take the box back with the misfires. He was given replacements. Perhaps he should have been on to Eley about it. Several members of our club have had misfires with match and one member had several with Tenex. It can't be claimed that it is a fault with a gun because it is different guns involved. If Eley match and TENEX have problems it will impact their sales because every round has to be top quality and the same performance when shooting match cards. The member that had Tenex misfires now buys either RWS or Lapua I think.
Bewsher500
RWS are the slowest of the subs and very accurate in my sako just cant get them round here bought a 1000 win subs a while back before the 42's went on sale and am still working my way through them, no zingers here
