Salop Matt
I am looking at a Side by side none ejector that am interested in as my O/U is just too heavy to walk around with. Now once or twice a year I do have one or two beaters days that sees a lot of shooting on the day. Does anyone else use a non ejector on any beaters days or bigger days as it were ? My normal walk round at our little DIY shoot is under 10 shots maybe 15 if there are pigeons to have a go at and bag of 15/25 average, the beaters days are normally 50 - 70 shots and am one of several guns and the bag is circa 150 birds it would be nice to use a SxS for this but am not sure if I would be cheating myself out of sport by not having the quicker reload time given by ejectors. My current SxS is an ejector that I do like but the ejectors again have gone out of timing and the fore piece is badly fitting now so am thinking its days are numbered. Blackpowder
Hi SS for a while I owned a Robert Hughes box lock n/e which was ideal for pigeons and walk abouts but never had and keepers days or purely driven days at the time. The non ejector was fine for the small syndicate days talking like you of something like 20 shots max for the day. I see you are saying that the fore end of your s/s ejector is badly fitting, does this mean loose? I had this problem with my Army and Navy hammer gun and have just had it repaired the trouble being a loose fore end loop below the barrels. TIGHTCHOKE
Yes I took my BLNE to both Keepers Days last season and to the vermin day recently. Lightest to carry and shoots 1 once loads sweetly.
bruno22rf
Your current gun should be easy to repair - just depends on how much you really want another gun . Why not look around for a nice early English Gun that needs a little work and thus get the pleasure of restoring as well as a bargain - loads on Gunstar etc. As for ejectors - cannot really see the point in them, why rush when you are clay shooting? and if you use them out in the field you spend more time looking for the empties than you ever would have done pulling the shells out manually? Glenlivet
I've got 2 sbs non ejectors which I use on my recently acquired permission for rough shooting. My sbs ejector would be hopeless as it throws the empties around 30 yards and I'd never find them!! If I haven't hit it with two barrels I'm probably not going to! dougall
most folk seem to catch/stop their ejectors these days anyway...loading a non ejector is not that much slower.......get alot more gun for your money without them too

Blackpowder hello, that is interesting black powder, my first S by S at 15 (51 years ago) was the same gun but i think J hughes birmingham, my dad bought me for 12 old pounds. years later i bought an army and navy XXV boxlock ejector type 12 bore and that was a beaut of a gun,

Usually stop the cartridges from ejecting that is! However ejectors are an advantage when shooting driven and the birds are coming thick and fast, but a SBS non ejector is fine for small days and walked up and the real bonus is they are far lighter and more comfortable to carry all day.......than an O/U! ATB Matt If the forend is loose then this will effect the ejectors . A simple tightening of the forend loop may may solve the problem Not always as easy as some will tell you and it is worth checking that the loop has not come loose before doing anything else .. 14Supersport04
I just used a sabel BLE on the clays and shot it just as well as my O/U if not better, i love the lightness of the gun and how lively it is. Im looking to get a T.Bland & sons BLNE very soon for both game and clay shooting. Edited April 16, 2016 by 14Supersport04
matone
Used a non ej for a whole season when my ejector was being repaired and didn`t bother me one bit ,even on driven grouse days. May cost you a shot or two but very little difference in the big picture of things.
