sell the l200 mike mine cost me a fortune and i am in the trade. new engine rear springs the list goes on. bought a secoundhand ranger that had put a trailler into the back cornerfixed it and touch wood no problems. 3 years on and well over 100k equipped with full shooting bench on the back and frame for gralloching :) . i would be lost without it

Cheers mate

I'd take the Mirage thingy off road anyway..

See what there like.

I ll give it a go and report back

An outing on the rabbits night before last with the .22rf and bumped into this well grown cub just before dark. A more fox focused outing last night found the other four, 2 dogs, 2 vixen with the .204.

fantastic work as ever mate, well done :good:

Sorry to hear about your motor Mike ....**** news.

Heres a few pics off the last week.

Shot this called in to around 100 yds.......

.tims%20002_zpsgakjx4cm.jpg

I shot a 2nd one that night off sticks which was a runner in long grass , couldn't find it so went back next evening in daylight and found it , had ran on 70 yds.

Called on same place and pulled in this one text book style for Jeff .. it stood under 10 yds off caller pointing at it

Moved on to another farm. Spotted a fox which wouldn't come to caller ...so Jeff had to take a shot just as the mist was rolling in , could only see its head and neck , and pulled off a great shot off the sticks putting the round through its neck ...

Genuine mate .....I feel your pain .

:lol: Cheers Mark. I should have said it was a company vehicle but then I wouldnt have got any sympathy. I am test driving an Amarok pickup next weekend so will at least have something I can take off road for a couple of days.

I certainly wont be getting another L200.

What a good suggestion. Given that the idiots on townyfile said "what a lovely stag" when it was a roe buck god knows if they could spot a fox.

Foxhunter 1 seems to have lots of artistic talent perhaps he could get the ball rolling :lol:

Sunday night I decided to see if I could get my rifle into the back of my lovely little Mirage that I have been given by the garage to replace my L200...it just fitted so off out after the foxes.

One of the farms has recently taken off the third cut off silage so I thought this would be a good bet. Headed off on foot as usual with rifle. caller and sticks in hand. A lot of the ground is flat as a pancake so most of the shots are off the sticks.

Got to field 3 and bumped a fox at about 30 yards. Got the rifle set up on the sticks as it got to the far end of the field. Caller on and got its interest. Finally after a volley of "cub distress" it got to about 60 yards and got a 56 grain .243 round in the side of its chest. Nice size dog.

Headed over to the other side of the farm and once again put the caller on. Spotted a flash of eyes with the torch so sticks deployed and over to the NV. Fox trotted into the field and stopped for a nice easy shot at about 70 yards...which I missed....reloaded and followed the fox to the edge of the field where it stopped for a last look at which point I connected (100 yards ish). Not sure how I missed the first time but at least it didnt escape. Good sized dog fox cub and a happy farmer.

Due to some comments about the fact that all my pics look the same I went all artistic with this one. Unlike Mark I dont carry props with me to dress up the pics but never mind :lol::lol:

Old school with the lamp

I like it

Yep mate , cant afford NV.

But to be fair shoot just as many foxes with the lamp as Nv . First time they see a lamp they get shot usually with a few exceptions. Then again I have seen plenty foxes called in to NV and escape too .....IR shy etc .....

Out again last night. Up to a mates who is due some new ducks so wanted to make sure the foxes were behaving. Got set up in a handy spot and put the caller on for a bit with various calls but no luck. Tried a hand call for a bit and I was met with a nice flash of fox eyes. Over to the NV and saw a fox sat in the thistles at the bottom of the field. A quick squeak and he moved into a shootable position and fell to a chest shot at about 105 yards.

Carried on with hand calling and fox number 2 came in for a look but wasnt in a good place and left again. I headed over to the next field and called a bit more and finally managed to take a shot off the sticks at about 70 yards. No pic as this one was a fair mess.

Last flick of the lamp before heading off and I spotted a nice eye shine. Over to the NV and a bit more calling had fox number 3 coming n like a steam train. Had to shout at the fox to stop it and it dropped to a chest shot at about 40 yards. A productive couple of hours. Thanks for reading

This one fell to something a little smaller whilst rabbit bashing.

A 20 grain vmax strolling along at just a tad over 4250 from a beautiful Sako S491 rebarrelled in 17 remington flavour.

This one had escaped the bullet last week, but fell to a 53 grain vmax tapping it on the shoulder at around 3000 fps.

Tikka M55 22.250.

Both with an Archer.
