WelshMike
:-) horrible and now in a big ditch over the field. I love the HMR its cracking. Waiting for my 243 two months now but due in Feb. Good man. Agree ref the HMR but not a dedicated foxing rifle. Get some Winchester varmint x 58 grain BT rounds for the .243 mate, fantastic foxing round.
WelshMike
Since there are a lot of dedicated folks showing a good example I thought I better get out last night. I thought I would cover 4-5 farms. Farm 1. Parked up and trudged across some lovely muddy fields. First fox was spotted at the top of a bank about 30 yards away, quick squeak got him interested but no safe shot. He knew something wasnt right so legged it. I could hear various foxes calling around the place but despite calling nothing showed so I moved onto another part of the farm. Spotted a fox and after a short wait for her to clear the sheep a shot presented itself at about 100 yards, Vixen number 1 down. Over to another likely spot for a bit of calling, 20 mins later and nothing. Picked up the caller, last scan with the torch and spotted a nice pair of eyes. Over to the NV but the fox had disappeared. Quick squeak and it was about 30 yards away, quick shot of the sticks and over she went. Vixen No 2 . Bit more trudging around and just about to leave when I heard a dog calling. Caller on for a bit but fox wouldnt come in so I drove to another spot on the farm which is closer. Walked across the one field where I had heard the dog and spotted some nice eye shine under a hedge. Sticks out, NV on and was surprised to see 2 foxes curled up under the hedge. The first one was clear of the one behind so I dropped her at about 50 yards at which point her mate legged it only stopping behind a gate with a load of sheep as a backstop so he lives to fight another day. All in all I spotted 6 foxes on this farm and one asleep in a field on the next farm who wouldnt budge so still a bit of work to do before lambing. 3 vixens so a good nights work. Since it was midnight I called it a night. Might try and get out again tonight and cover the other farms. Thanks for reading.

WelshMike
Cheers boys...will get the pics sorted but IT issues causing it to crash every time I try so bear with me... Back out last night. Farm 1 and 2 were quiet Farm 3- I had a spot in mind under a nice block of woodland that I thought I might have some luck so set up under a tree with the sticks. Hadnt even got the caller ready when I spotted a fox...he followed the fence and stopped to wee on the gate post about 40 yards away so down he went. Set the caller up next to him, vixen call on and then heard an almighty racket in the woods so knew there was a vixen close by. Spotted her through the NV about 250 yards away so changed to my Gekkering recording....10 seconds of focy running later she me her end next to the dog. Most of the foxes I shoot are in immaculate condition but the dog was suffering from severe mange so glad I got him. Farm 4- This is where i shot the 3 vixens Monday night. First spot was quiet, second spot I picked up a flash of eyes in some woodland, Over to the NV to see a fox having a snack on a dead ewe. Quick hand squeak and she charged out of the woods straight down the field towards me. Had to shout to stop her and she dropped at about 60 yards to a chest shot. On to the bottom part of the farm where I spent over an hour getting the run around from various dog foxes barking like mad but not coming in to the call and never presenting a shot. Just looking to leave and spotted one about 170 yards out into the field. Wouldnt move any closer and I couldnt close the distance so crosshairs between the eyes and a 58 grain .243 round ended his days. Nice dog fox. All in all another good outing and 4 more accounted for. I will get the pics posted as soon as I can.

tonker
Hi guys, It was my first night out since Christmas as I had two perforated discs in my back that were a tad uncomfortable, no I'll be honest they were bloody painful and it meant I was laid up for a while. Tonight early evening I had a phone call from Rich a farmer who's farm I have been shooting for a few months, he said they were about to start lambing and could I walk around the farm to see if there were any fox's around. So I did the lower half of the farm, and managed to get a good dog at about 120yds but had left the phone in the truck and so didn't get a photo. I then drove around the farm and went up to Rich's end up the hill. I took the phone with me this time. and after doing the fields around his house and calling near the big wood to no avail I started dropping down the hill again. I got myself backed into a hedge and put the caller on, after about 10 minutes a set of eyes were showing lower down the hill. They gradually made there way into the field I was in, It was a big dog in super condition. I was hand squeaking by now and he was in no hurry to come near. He was working the ground and wouldn't come much nearer than 200yds, and where he was there was no shot on. I watched him for a good 15 minutes and then he worked around to a place where I could get a shot off, Farther than I would have liked, but it was now or never. So I sent one of my 50gr V-Max homeloads at him, we all know the sound of a good contact, and it was, straight in the bib. He was huge! and heavy as hell, so I thought oowee would be pleased to see this one, as you can see he had about nine inches of leg above a four rail fence . racing snake
Numbers 5 and 6 for 2017 for me tonight. Couple of decent sized foxes. Dog fox I just happened across during my walk, the second (vixen) came charging into a vixen call on the Foxpro. What with the weather and a severe case of man-flu it was good to finally get out again.
oowee
Great result for both you guys. Tonka, looking at the size of that gate he looks a big boy Sorry to hear about your back. Racing Snake welcome to the club. An opening bag of two and i must say a great picture. There are extra points for pictures particularly well composed ones :good:Where you from? We were out last night and bagged a couple with a fair bit of effort pics (my usual dismal effort ) and write up to follow. oowee
Out, with after the foxes with Bumpy last night and now trying to remember what we did. Started out about 2000 and out close to the motorway so plenty of noise in the background. Spotted one but not shootable so moved towards it and pushed it down into the fields below. Saw it again but it soon disappeared.Off to the next one and called on the hill side for 15 mins or so but nothing about. Off to the next and over some very wet and muddy fields. At last we spot one but again its not in a shootable position. Continue to call and move a little to the side and now its game on as it starts to come in the red light is on and I am waiting for the shot. A pause and nothing happens and now the fox wants out of there troting left to right. A quick bark and it stops for a moment and then its off again. Another bark and again it stops and down it goes at about 80m. We go and look for it and its gone Up and down the hedge, Definitely went down (I think) now not so sure, the doubt sets in. One last look and there she is just under the hedge. One in the bag. Notice the rifle stock. Green stain and 6 coats of lacquer, I think it looks great. Walking back up toward the farm house to the field where they are certain to be and you guessed it nothing. Then we spot one out at about 100m not shootable so we move up the field to narrow the angle and a quick shot sees it down. Bot shots looked to be a little low so may have to check out that zero. oowee
Thats a collection and a half from the album Mike. Some good shooting by the looks, the bottom pic looks like a busy day!! Like the NV Green rifle (.243) belongs to Bumpy looks like a custom job I think. Had a walk round today on the pheasant and partridge. Off tonight to see whats about looks like a clear night and fairly dark. Have to keep going out to fill the diary waiting for my open ticket (not that it's a chore). FEO said average person goes out once every two weeks and they open the ticket after five years. I make that about 250 trips before I can ask again
oowee
Went out last night it was mega cold. Saw a few but no scores on the doors. Came home to see one sitting in the corner of my field. Set up in the kitchen and called wife over to see. Put on a few calls but fox was happy to lay there. Checked back to the bait tree and there was another wandering about. Took it at about 60m a nice sized vixen.

Dougy
Ive been out 4 times this week and seen 2, 1st one through a gate spotted with thermal, but through my Archer saw B all due to the fog that was 70 yards. Then out Thursday night and one crept up behind me a quick change of position on the back of the truck, slipped and pulled the shot sounded good but missed. 1st one this year. Was out last night to see if the one I missed was going to show, same place same time but no sign of it.
FOXHUNTER1
I was out last night too in the drizzle and saw nothing but did have a moment of excitement, Lit up eyes in a hedge and started hand squeaking , the eyes started coming across the field nicely but when I got behind the scope for the shot I was disappointed as it was Tiddles being curious
