JDog
I saw this amazing brood of fourteen wild Grey partridges yesterday looking a picture of health. The parents were very attentive. Not all of them are in the picture - the little tinkers were all over the place but there were indeed twelve chicks with the two adults. Penelope
Lovely! Did you by chance catch them up as an insurance policy? scolopax
Really excellent. I get much more pleasure from seeing and watching a covey of wild grey poults on a stubble edge than I ever did when I shot them.
kennett
Saw a hen pheasant today with 6 chicks, no more than a few days old! They have a lot of growing to do very quickly!!
Penelope
The cat where my GF works brought a 3 week old poult in yesterday morning. I hope it doesn't get the rest.
norfolk dumpling
Saw a couple of pheasant chicks - 3-4 weeks old - in the lane this morning. Have had a few in my garden but suspect neighbours cat got them.
Smokersmith
Been on the road a bit over the weekend, and as soon as I got on the fen roads, I started to see poults everywhere on the evening stubbles. 5's as well as smaller numbers. This morning I counted 13 well on Frenchies excluding their parents. It looks like the second wave will help us a lot here. Seeing some good numbers of wild mallard around too .... aga man
Very exciting seeing Perdix Perdix breeding well isn't it? Absolutely! The finest of all the gamebirds i would say. They have done well to steer clear of the Sparrowhawks, Buzzards etc etc! Edited September 1, 2016 by aga man
JDog
On this morning's walk over the stubble field opposite my house Jasper was unusually excited. The reason became clear when he flushed a covey of wild Grey partridge which flew almost over my house. There were at least fourteen in the covey, possibly more. I have never seen or heard of this particular lot before.
