Houseplant
Probably preaching to the converted here, but I've just put together a set of shooting sticks. Bipod, standing. Must admit to being sceptical, but I'm quite amazed at the stability. Proof will be in the pudding of course, but think they will be good enough for rabbit shooting with my .22LR. One question though. The pole are used are a little short forcing me to bend forwards very slightly. Good/bad/doesn't matter?
rodp
Get one of the leather "hammocks" off Mel for the top, not only make them a little higher but a lot easier to use. Gives more manoeuvrability to the rifle and holds it level.
FalconFN
I use short sticks so that they are the right height for when kneeling or sitting. I find that the most stable way for me. If you use 15mm Dowling you can make them as tall as you like and they are still very light.

malkiserow
We need some clever new DIY designs for the new breed of quad sticks with the 'adjustable' front so the gun can be moved an inch sideways..... Where is Frenchieboy when we need him.......?
Houseplant
Took them out this evening. First shot resulted in a dead bunny at 40 metres. He was joined by 5 mates and a similar number of possums. The sticks are a hit! Next move, need to put a shoulder strap on them. Anyone done this. ditchman
it would be easy enuff to make a set of shooting sticks that double up as a thumb stick.....just a longer version of my WO 1 Sgt' Cornish 's pace stick.........

There is, ask Melb's wife to make you a set of the leather "hammocks" for the top of the sticks, maybe not quite so much lateral movement as those in the pic but certainly a lot more than just sat in the fork of the sticks. If you use 15mm Dowling you can make them as tall as you like and they are still very light. I recently saw a video from a member off here using short sticks for sitting shots, I have made standing ones but fancy making a set of these as they look great and you'd be way more stable sat/ kneeling
oxfordfowler
Just picked up a set of quad sticks from the guy at Corinium Rifle Club. First impressions are very good. Have a look at the video on the web site.

I still use the original set of tripod sticks (The same set that I made in this video) and they are still as reliable as ever - My Freelander would feel naked without my tripod sticks in the luggage section! Houseplant
Only I could make a meal of screwing two sticks together! For standing sticks, what height relative to your body do you have the sticks crossing over? Shoulder, eye or somewhere in between?
